Yet another newbie!

Just wanted to say howdie and introduce myself. I usually hang out on the CamaroZ28 board but learned about this baord from one of your members (Turbo96Z). Nice to have some local friends...

Living in Mantua (The great 51st state of South Jersey!) and I will be at the meet this weekend. I go to the Texas Roadhouse all of the time and you won't find an easier place to get to. Food is great too.

So far, I haven't met anyone with more miles on their Camaro (300,000 this week!) than me so I guess that is my claim to fame. All on the original motor, trans and axle. Got to love Valvoline 5W-30 (non-synthetic).

Looking forward to meeting all of you...

Jeff

Thanks guys! I am on my third opti. I've never rebuilt the motor but I have done lots of repairs. Water pumpts, optis, power window motors, cam shaft and lifters, alternators, batteries, fuel pumps, intake manifold gaskets, radiator, plugs, wires, ball joints, tie rods, steering rack, lots of tires and brakes. If it can wear out, I have fixed it.

But the trans, rear and motor have never been out of the car. And the car runs like new. I have learned 2 things. Optis suck and Camaros rule!

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Jeff

Nah, the opti is a good idea and design, its just has a horrible placement.

I'll agree the concept is good but IMHO the actual design of the part and placement is not. If you think about it, I am averaging 1 opti per every 100,00 miles. In fact I am starting to get the missing low resolution signal code again so I know I am about due for my 4th. On most cars, I would expect to replace the distrbutor cap every 100,000 miles (Ok, maybe not quite that many miles). In effect, GM has provided a throw away distributor because the whole unit lasts about as long as a good distributor cap. While it provides for good engine performance, it is a step backward as far as maintenance costs go.

But anyway, I just wanted to say hi. The opti has been debated to death. I heard that the temperature is going to be 50 degrees tomorrow afternoon so maybe I'll get to drop the top for the meet at the Texas Roadhouse.

Really looking forward t osee everybody's car.

Jeff aka "SweetZRag"

PS. My wife just called me to tell me the car actually rolled 300,000 this morning. She took a picture of the odometer with her new camera phone. I think I'll make it part of my signature!

Now heres a man who can tell you exactly when an opti is about to go. Going on # 4 I give you credit, I did one and would hate to do it again! Good luck!

I got a 91 f150 that I use for work. Inline 6 and a 5 speed. 300k+ miles and only thing it has gotten was 1 tranny rebuild. I keep trying to kill it by chirping 2nd, doing donuts behind our warehouse .... but it keeps on chuggin.
