People with grundy or other collector insurance
I looked at american collectors, they make you sign a document stating that you cannot allow anyone with less than 10 years driving experience drive the car..BS..I looked into hagerty, I would have to insure my car no less than 16,000 as an exotic and it would cost me $400 annual. I just looked at grundy and it would cost me $100 annual, under modified rather than stock with unlimited mileage, I haven't seen anything written about age. I figure my camaro is listed under my dads name now, so what would be the difference if it were listed under his name as a collector car. Anyone here use grundy or some other company?

I have Hagerty, but they originally told me the car was "too new" to qualify. Once they saw the pictures of all the work we put into it, they changed their tune. Your car is probably still too close to stock for them, since it is newer. The only problem you may run into is that the collector companies really don't like a secondary driver on the car; meaning, if the car is in your dad's name, he should be driving it. If you get into an accident with it, they may not cover it since he wasn't driving.

Yea, I thought about that. A plus side is me and my dad have the same name..only difference is that I'm Jr. lol I should call up my friend Steve, his mom set up collector car insurance for his 89 GTA and she asked them if her son was driving and got into an accident, would they still cover. The agent they don't push other drivers, but he would be covered.

Grundys
Sorry I'm a little late to post but have been busy....
I use Grundys. My car is insured for $25000 and it costs me $385 a year. I'm gonna bump up the coverage once I get the work done so I'll be over $400. But when I insured the car it was basically bone stock. I think the stipulations are you must be 26 yo and no one under your age can drive the car. E.G. I am 32 so no one under 32yo can drive the car - which I think is ********, but outside my wife (who can't drive a stick anyway) no one else would be allowed to drive the car. Of course you have to prove that you have full time insurance on a daily driver to do this, AND you can't take the car to school or work. But the cost is cheap, they don't care how many miles you drive the car, and there is no "mod" list. You pay for what you think the car is worth so I thought it was a pretty good deal. Hope that helps. |
WOW!!!!!!!! I have my car insured thru Grundy for $50k and I only pay $355 per year!!! How in the world do you pay more???
Anyway, yes, it's either 25 or 26 yrs of age. I have been with them for 3 years without a problem. Not sure about the other driver age though, don't have that problem, wife won't drive the car anyway!! |
We have hagerty and they were extremely (sp?) cautious about adding me on the policy. They want people with 10 years of experience behind the wheel, and I was only 19 when they added me. All they did was make it that if I get one ticket I lose the insurance on the car.

What a concept, the companies selling low cost agreed value policies don’t want kids driving them. Huh, wonder why? :)
Hagerty wanted to list yours (I assume the 89) as an exotic? Why, because it isn’t that old yet? |
I can understand that for maybe anything under 21, but I don't think anyone 21 and older is still a "kid". Hell, I drive better than a lot of adults  My only ticket was for no front plate and I've had no accidents, I'll be 21 at the end of April. Anyway, with hagerty, JCLT12003 (Jason) has it on his 97. I believe he said its under his dads name and his name is listed on there as a driver. The car is listed as an exotic (the agent set him up with that) because his (and my 89) are too new to be listed as stock or even modified. Only problem is that minimum value must be 16 grand, which means he pays $4xx a year. It's crap, I don't want to be paying full time insurance on a car that I hardly drive. Stupid NJ auto insurance. I'll find out from my friend which company he has and if that's a no go, I'll talk to the same agent that Jason used, $4xx/year is still better than $1000

I was busting balls on the kid thing. But give a good car to the average 21 year old, eeek.
At least with that $400+ policy, you'll get a whole lot more coverage then with your own carrier. You wouldn't get $16k for 4 1989 Camaros from a standard policy. |
Don't even think about American Collectors, they are the worst. As for the kid comment, I'd consider anyone under 25 a kid, heck, I've seen the way most of you drive and I would never insure one of your vehicles!

Im gunna cross my fingers and go with Hagerty and hope they insure me even with my brothers piss poor driving record.
|
Guys, honestly check out Grundy. The coverage is the same but it shoudl cost you a lot less $$$$$$. You can even get a quite on line from them at http://www.grundy.com/
|
I e-mailed Grundy as my father and asked them if my 21 year old son (me) was driving the car and got into an accident...would he be covered. They replied telling me unfortunately, no, they don't insure anyone under 25.

What are the requirements to get this collectors insurance? Does the car have to be a certain age or value?
I'd LOVE to be able to put the Z on a policy like that(even though there's nothing really special about it) . I'd save me a quite a bit of $$ every month. |
I filled out a quote sheet, we'll see what they say.
|
Just make sure you guys speak to someone who knows what they're talking about. The collector, classic, limited use insurance is very specific and you need to know what's covered and in what situations. They want your money but if you file a claim they have a lot of specifics to allow them to deny your claim. Definitely read the fine print.

lol Ted.
I pay like $160/month for the Z. If I knocked it down to like 40/month that'd be niiiiice |
Like i told alot of people that have asked me about this i am using hagerty. The car is under my dads name you can't have any points or any violations on your licsense. I pay $386 dollars a year and my car is insured for 18k i believe don't exactly remember so don't quote me but somewhere in that range. They are a really good company and are glad to help you in any way they can. They also provide free towing service.

What are the driving restrictions? |
I cant used Grundy for another 3 years.
Hagerty is the only one left. |
Hagerty requires the car to be kept inside. They also require you to have a clean liscens and and the car can only be driven 4k a year.
