which should i do first?
alright here are my options on mods for the next couple months cuz money is kinda tight paying insurance ect but would like to have some more opinions... or other ideas (im gonna need the brakes btw so skipping them isnt an option)
march- catback exhaust (havent decided which one either mufflex 4 inch with spintechs, custom magnaflow setup with smaller muffler or gmmg or stainless works chambered setup) may-new brakes (thinking hawk pads and powerslot rotors might try to swing just replacing the pads if i can) june or july - get the couple scratches rocks chips touched up entire car buffed ect and make it look like new basically cuz those small little marks annoy the **** outta me its just a matter of whether i wanna do the catback first or paintwork first both will prob. end up around the same price... then in august or fall time i plan on getting some qtp lt's and a catted y |
I say you do a converter & some SS longtubes

Why not skip the cat back and save up for the header-back?

:stupid: Though, instead of getting the car touched up etc. I would put that money towards the drivetrain. Instead of sending it to a shop, maybe try to do the touch-up and buff yourself? It'll save you a few hundred bucks in the long run.

Does the car need new brakes? If not I would leave them for now, if so then they should be #1 on the list. The hawk pads are nice, I am running them on my 02 but I have baer rotors. I think I would do a catback, I am partial to Magnaflow and leave the headers until you plan on getting tuned or do some more earth shattering work then bolt ons. Alot of the longtubes cause a loss in low end torque, although QTP's are probaly one of the 2 best on the market (Kooks is nice also). When I put my longtubes on my car before the cam went in my 1/4 mile time went up .3 from 12.4 to 12.7 but the MPH got alot better from 110 to about 112.5. So it was making alot more at the top end but the off the line power wasn't as good. Save the LT's for after you swap converters, make good use of them. If it were me I would do the cat back and then work on the chassis. Put in SFC's if you don't have them, maybe a D/S loop, get some good LCA's and panhard bar (I recommend UMI, they are beefy as hell!) and save changing brakes for when the stockers wear out or your rotors warp (typical on a GM car). Also talk to Foff667 about some tuning....you'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes!

well its pretty much a daily driver so im not that worried bout the show part just the few scratches that are there annoy the **** outta me.... in a few years itll prolly turn into more of a show and go car...i plan on doing the suspension after the tc lt's ect. and hopfully im picking up a 77 trans am withen the next couple months so that will end up the weekend/drag car but thanks for the suggestions guys.... for now im just doing the catback and in a couple months im gonna have to do brakes... then ill see where it goes from there

The Power Slot rotors will be a total waste of your hard earned $ ...Either their cross drilled rotors which Warp very fast and don't actually improve your braking at all!!! but i guess they look Cool to some people. Or their Slotted Rotors with the grooves won't do anything for you except chew up & wear out your Brake pads at a much faster rate and that will be real expensive since you mentioned you want to use Hawk Pads. And since yours is a daily driver your better off either going Baer or Wildwood or bigger calipers ect.. You won't gain anything but looks from the Power Slots. If you can't afford to go with the better upgrade your really better off just using OEM style rotors if any of your rotors are warped. If not then your better off just having your stock rotors cut down prior to installing the Hawk Pad's. I highly recommend the Hawk HPS pad's i picked mine up from WS6PROJECT.COM at $129.00 for both the front and rear in a package deal. Plus not using the Power slot's would free up your $ to take care of the scratches that annoy you or to spend it someplace else you would more benifit from on the car. The Hawk Pad's are great their the only Pad's i have used on any of my Z's just make sure you follow the directions for the proper Burmishing and to use that Red anti squeel compound on the back of the pad's that all auto parts stores carry
