WTF!! Nice Day = NO START!

ok so i come home last night, car ran normal go to start it up this morning and it just cranked, i replaced the battery cuz it was over 4 years old and figured it was dieing anyway, no start, fuel pump checks good, there is spark at the distributor(on the center wire from the coil), but i didnt get anything when i probbed the coil and cranked the motor. i duno what else to check............HELP its so nice and i just started spring break!

maroman88 03-11-2006 08:32 PM

well i pulled a few plugs and there soaked with gas now from cranking it, i checked the oil and it seems theres gas in there too, i lit my dipstick on fire with a lighter...

The Fixer 03-12-2006 07:32 AM

Man, you gotta get those injectors changed!

maroman88 03-12-2006 09:47 AM

i was avoiding that, you really think thats the only problem though, it ran fine for like a month n then it dies overnight?

first thing im guna do is change the oil n see what comes out, if that checks ok then i guess ill do the injectors...

maroman88 03-12-2006 04:14 PM

ok i got most of the tpi stuff off and everything disconected, few questions tho
1. is the FPR the same on 305s and 350s
2. is the fuel rail the same

i bought 305 injectors and a fuel rail and i was just guna swap the whole rail out, but the hard fuel lines are frozen together so im just guna swap the actual injectors.

also since my plugs are soaked with gas do i have to take each one out and dry it off or ya think i could get away with just doing a few of them, or will it just evaporate if its not started for a few days!?

deadtrend1 03-12-2006 06:33 PM

i was gonan may maybe the CTS is making it no start

maroman88 03-12-2006 07:16 PM

CTS = ??

well this is still a great reason to put the correct injectors in lol

maroman88 03-13-2006 02:21 PM

305 injectors are in, oil is changed, still no start, just keeps on crankin

maroman88 03-13-2006 03:58 PM

i pulled the plugs, dried them off, tried to start again, no go, pulled a plug and it was FULL of gas again

ignition module?

maroman88 03-13-2006 04:47 PM

ok i think i do hear something clicking from the distributor area, or maybe the coil, i pulled the 2 plugs on the coil and with the car in run, only one had power, but when plugged in all 4 have power

The Fixer 03-13-2006 06:01 PM

Dunno, now you've got me. I had that happen once to me, and it turned out to be the ignition module.

Another thing to check, maybe the diaphragm on the fuel pressure regulator is ripped? That would make it full of gas pretty quick.

maroman88 03-13-2006 11:32 PM

isnt the ignition module inside or under the dist cap? i have spark everywhere i checked, at the coil and the wires at the dist and at the plug

maroman88 03-14-2006 12:02 AM

i forgot i tested the ignition module with a power tester, with the key in the run position i tested both of the conectors, the 2 wire one had 1 with power and 1 without, the four or five wire connector had no power to any wires, (the ignition module is what the wires plug into on the dist right?) lol

This is what an HEI ignition module looks like:

It is found under the disributor cap.

Right, I forgot that you have a small cap HEI on the car. I'm just used to seeing the large cap on my car now....

i picked a new one up, in my manual it says when you install it to coat the bottom of it and the metal mount with a silicon lubricant so it doesnt fry. where can i get this lude stuff?

The Fixer 03-14-2006 11:02 AM

There should be a small tube of dielectric grease in the box with the new module. If not, I have some at my house if you wanna swing by and grab it later on.

maroman88 03-14-2006 01:02 PM

haha didnt even notice but it was in the box, thanks anyway steve!

maroman88 03-15-2006 01:09 PM

installed the new ignition module and still no start, how about the coil? it makes spark but maybe not enough? i dunno what else to check

The Fixer 03-15-2006 05:44 PM

Well, if you've got spark, and you know the fuel is getting there, it should at least turn over. Did you try a new set of plugs, or just dry the original ones out?

maroman88 03-16-2006 09:14 AM

all it does is turn over, just wont start. i dried off most of the plugs the other day and even lightly sanded off a layer of blackness, i guess ill give that another shot today since there probably soaked again

maroman88 03-16-2006 11:32 AM

took out some plugs again to dry them off and there just sooo wet, do you guys think maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad? if it was bad would it just allow way too much fuel to pass through, thus dumping so much fuel to soak the plugs so they wont spark?

Yea, this could be the issue. Might want to look into it.
