Carb Tuning?
With this spring and summer coming up, I wanted to know if anyone could help me tune the carb. Its an Edelbrock carb, probably a 600cfm or around there. Im in the process of putting on exhaust, and I wanted to advance the timing a little bit.
If anyone knows a good book or a guide on how to tune these type carbs, please point me in the right direction. Also, just some questions overall. When you advance the timing, do you disconnect the vaccum line off the distributor? |
Your best bet with that is to find a book that was printed pre 80's... I was having the same issue, not knowing how to tune the carb, the only difference is that I have a Holley 650 Square bore... Either that or find someone who's been around the track for about 20 years

No need to remove the vacuum line when you advance the timing.

i will dig through all my tech stuff that i have here. someplace i have a carter carb book, same exact thing edelbroke sells. i will see if i can find it for you.
someone remind me to bring it to the trucks tomorrow!!! |
in jegs and summit they sell a re cal tuning kit its easy and their tech or edel tech can help if you get stuck just do your tuning in the weather you drive the car in most
The distributor can be on vacuum at idle or off vacuum you will need a dial back timing light to insure what you really have, a sort of stock sbc can handle as much timing as not to Rattle ( ping ) if you hear it ping retard it 2* at a time till it goes away, if you have to much timing it will at some point burn a piston, any performance work in the motor wont take as much timing before it starts to ping, having the distributor re curved for full centrifugal advance is another way to get it all so to speak, almost all carb sbc motors seam to run best between 36 / 38 deg of max timing around 3200 RPMs again its a guess not knowing any real info jz |
