Tire Sizes

The tire manufacturer will tell you what rim sizes are safe to mount their tires on.

A 275/40/17 will fit on a 9" rim and is the same height as the 245/50/16 (no pseedo issues). I don't know about clearence on a 3rd gen. Or maybe 255/45R17, which is a hair taller and will also fit on a 9" rim.

It will fit on a 17X8, as long as you are not using like a Drag radial. Yes it will fit, but I would not take any sharp turns with it. on my SS i had the 315 35 17 Nitto Dr's on stock ZR1 17x9's. And cornering was not the great thing in the world.
