But only if it is a rare collector's plane.

And the plans won't fly as long as the belt keeps moving at the speed of the wheels. No air flow = no flight.

Sounds like an episode of MYTHBUSTERS needs to be done on this.

it was already proven that the plane will fly, so dont start it again

It's all speculation until I see it in action. Though it is a badly worded question in the first place.

Tru2Chevy 03-29-2006 03:43 PM

No they don't. The plane will fly.

F THE MOTHER F-ING PLANE!

Oddball 03-29-2006 04:03 PM

Depending on how you intrepret the question it could be either answer. This is the type of question my college professors would love to give us just to see how we think. I'll write up my analysis later if I have the time. The key word is traction / friction.

turbo96z28 03-29-2006 04:04 PM

i hate the plane.

i hope Paul parts out the plane.

it's gotta say 1LE on it somewhere.

oddball...traction isnt needed because the wheels dont drive the plane

which means the wheels are irrelevant to the planes forward motion

which means the plane can move forward in relation to the ground, and take off

the end. im going to the mythbusters website to send in the idea

edit: nevermind, on the forum for submitting ideas therse a 10 page thread about it, with everyone fighting

but, everyone says it will take off....youre wrong. maybe we'll see it on the show someday cause it seems popular

F the plane!!! gosh!!

Ian 03-29-2006 05:53 PM

you've got to be kidding me! not this again

this is what I posted on FLCFA:

the answer is the plane WILL take off.

think about this: A toy car on a treadmill. the treadmill starts up and goes as fast as it can, however you are holding the car in one position. the slightest push forward from you will make the car roll forward. Why? The treadmill is not counteracting the thrust. now if it were the same scenario, but someone was holding your arm back just as hard as you were pushing it forward, then the car wouldnt move.

In order for the plane to stay stationary, there needs to be a force opposing the body of the plane, not the wheels.

cliff notes: the wheels dont push the plane, therefore they dont matter. the jet out back does push the plane and operates unopposed. the plane moves forward, air moves over and under the wings and the plane takes off.

END!
