Is it just me?
Ok, as an Editor/Mod on GMInsidenews.com, I come across a lot of things and see a lot of peoples opinions on cars. I agree with most, and disagree with some. But several recent posts have me puzzled.
There have been a rash of threads going up about where the Camaro would be produced. The two big plants that are talked about are the *Oshawa, Canada plant that currently makes the Impala and Monte. The Impala is said to be put on the RWD chassis as well. Oshawa has a capacity of nearly 400k units, and a RWD Impala cant fill all of that. They are closing down the 2nd Oshawa plant that makes the Grand Prix and Buick LaCrosse after there run. Rumor has it that Oshawa #1 will make the Impala, a Pontiac sports sedan, and a large Buick sedan, as well as maybe others, but thats the main focus. After all said and done, there would still be room to sneek in a 100-150k Camaros in there. *Wilmington, DE plant currently makes the RWD Kappa cars, the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, and Opel GT. The Wilmington plant was the plant once used to make the ill-fated L-Series Saturn sedans. That factory has a capacity of over 250k units. The Kappa cars might take up about 60-70k units of that. They have a very small corner of the factory that they occupy. Camaro could be built along side the Kappa cars to bring that plant up to full capacity. Now my concern isnt really about the plants, but about the people who are talking about them. Some people on GMI have said that if its built in Canada, that they will NOT purchase the Camaro!! Some stated that is the main reason why they never bought a 4th gen, because its country of origin. Some have brought up the fact that if Toyota can make Camry's in America, why cant Chevy make Camaros in America? What is your feelings on this? Would the location of the plant weigh your opinion on weither you will buy it or not? And there is a bonus question, you can vote for multiple choices. ;) |
i'm still leaning towards Willmington.
Maximum Bob has said publicly the Camaro will not be built in Canada, and Willmington is just screaming for another line. a few key posts by certain people on various boards seem to be hinting Willmington will be producing a coupe and convertible in the near future. Oshawa looks like it will be handling most of the larger RWD GM entries, such as the Chevy, Buick, and Pontiac RWDs. and 100% of voters think Wayfast will post something off topic. |

Matters not. That is only final assembly anyway.

I'd really like to see it built in the US. But as long as they build it's fine with me.
