700R4 Question?

Guy I work with is getting a 88 IROC, and the problem with it is that the guy thinks that the front pump seal is leaking. How hard is that to replace? Is it like a rear main seal, or is this something that would be best left to people who know wtf they are doing?

If it is the large front pump seal then i would have to say in your words that it.. "would be best left to people who know wtf tehy are doing?". If it the front seal that rides on the converter than it still requires the R&R of the trans and converter.

:werd:

the converter seal is easy to replace, but if its the pump housing seal thats leaking, he should have someone else do it.

There is a gasket behind the front pump. If you don't know about 700r4's ( or trannies in general, don't mess with it.) The clad seal in the front pump is easy to replace once the tranny is out.

In other words, I guess he needs to start to take a look at a rebuilt trans? I guess that an excuse to make more power. Cant have a new trans handle more power then the engine can put out now can we!!

interesting, I have a leak somewhere, I gotta look at it more in depth when I can turn the car around. I'm hoping its just a line or something
