MY CAR HATES ME

yea so im driving down the road tonight doing 45...i hear a bump ABOVE me...and look up just to see my t-top eject and fly away.

i pulled over immediately and scaled the street with my flashlight...only to find the glass shattered...yea, they were latched.

if someone has a pair for an 87 (or whatever year will fit)...please let me know ASAP...ive got a post in classifieds but i know the lounge gets checked more.

thanks guys.

if someone has got some available for pickup on sunday the 9th...call me...

rained on much? Hmmmm bring back memories Tim?

IROCdan330 04-08-2006 10:45 PM

thankfully it was done raining.

foff667 04-08-2006 11:16 PM

when i still had the Z same **** happened as I was heading to etown to race...i said **** it & we kept going to at least watch so it wasnt a total waste...then we noticed clouds moving in so I told tim we should leave before the rain starts...needless to say we ALMOST made it back...thankfully tim grabbed one of those newspapers from etown lol but yeah he was soaked lol

IROCdan330 04-08-2006 11:23 PM

all i can do is laugh about my situation.

to look up and watch the t-top disappear into the night...find it 10 inches from a lawn (perhaps a softer landing)...i think it actually hit a mailbox and thats what destroyed it. the van or SUV behind me didnt get hit either...they were right on my ass at that.

yea but its still cold here, thats what sucks. good thing its sunny tomorrow.

Brando56894 04-09-2006 03:07 AM

wow that sucks dan, but pretty god that you found a pair :)

BonzoHansen 04-09-2006 08:16 AM

$75 is a deal. I sold a like new set last year for $200

That happened to me on my 82. Crusing down the GSP then 'pop'. Took me a few seconds to figure what happened. I watched it roll a few times down the road, accross the grass medium and then shatter in the express lanes.

Pissed me off. I was going to the camaro-firebird junkyard in patterson to get new interior parts; I came back with t tops.

12secondv6 04-09-2006 08:46 AM

Happened to me many yearas ago also.... sucks when it happens

qwikz28 04-09-2006 09:25 AM

cool deal! sorry to hear it happened though

JL8Jeff 04-09-2006 09:59 AM

And you guys wonder why I like my hardtop better! I hardly ever took the t-tops off my 93 Indy Pace Car after a bird just missed crapping all over the interior one day. Plus, I get enough sun beating down on me when I'm in my boat, I don't need any extra while I'm driving.

WayFast84 04-09-2006 10:18 AM

I think I like hard tops better now!

Tsar 04-09-2006 10:34 AM

how does it come off if its latched? is it a turd gen thing? cuz i wouldnt be able to yank my out when its latched even if i tryed.

IROCdan330 04-09-2006 10:38 AM

you got me. either when i latched it, it didnt do its thing or someone played a really nasty trick on me.

its a camaro thing  yea same here tsar idk how they could come off, mine is locked in tight as hell when its latched...

IROCZBeast 04-09-2006 11:59 AM

wow that sucks that happened to my buddy joe (84HOtransam) once.

someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the fourth gen t-tops almost unbreakable because there lexan and not glass? I've heard stories of fourth gen t-tops flying off on the highway and not breaking.

V 04-09-2006 12:40 PM

91-92 v8 f-body Lexan ttops FTW.. plus they can be painted body color to match.

the 4th gen ones do break, but i think the 95+ ones are a bit stronger than the 93-94 dot matrix versions, which are still stronger than the 3rd gens. Ive owned many ttop f bodys and never had an issue with a ttop popping off if it was latched, i did almost lose one in my gta, but i was driving around town and saw it hopping a little and realized i didnt latch it earlier.

i think i have 3 or 4 passenger side ttops and only 1 drivers side left after selling them to people who had this happen to them as well.

project89 04-09-2006 01:43 PM

happened to me a while back when i had my first 87 iroc, one of the t-tops had a loose latch lever so ever once in a while while u were driving ud have to reach up and push the latch all the way closed, lol well i forgot one night while cruizing up rt 9,never heard it come off the car.think i went threw about 3 sets with that car (one set i droped and one set a buddie broke),havent owned a t-top car since

qwikz28 04-09-2006 01:56 PM

happened to me too but it was cause i latched it in poorly.

IROCdan330 04-09-2006 06:41 PM

HUGE thanks to Tim for being there on the spot today.

Yes, my car has a roof again.
