Can't pump my own gas? WTF?

I'm reading an article in the USA Today, and it is talking about a big debate on weather people in N.J. should pump their own gas. It's funny because there are all these excuses why no one wants to. I haven't seen a gas attendant in probably 20 years. Guess I will next week lol

WayFast84 05-17-2006 05:26 PM

I think they should be allowed to ive had some bad experiences with gas attendents

Ian 05-17-2006 05:29 PM

its pretty stupid, but we dont pay extra for it so its not a big deal.

NJSPEEDER 05-17-2006 05:42 PM

currently the state is planning to have a pilot program out in the fall with stations closer to the state borders allowing people to pump their own gas. they are somehow under the ongoing delusion that it will lower the price of gas.
i don't mind pumping my own gas(i work in PA and travel regularly), it is just the thought that it will cost a few thousand people their jobs statewide if they go through with it. they may only be minimum wage jobs, but it is that many fewer people who's payroll is derived from my taxes.

Hell, I want to pump my own gas. But the article cracked me up with the reasons people there don't want to pump their own gas

"It's not my cup of tea," she says of filling her tank. "It's the smell."

Besides, he says, "If I'm in a tux going to a black tie (event), I don't want to stop and handle a gas pump."

While attendants are trained, many motorists would be novices. "It could be put in the wrong container," says Dressler, whose group represents about 2,200 of the state's 3,800 gas stations. There could be "somebody getting out and smoking and they didn't turn the engine off."

She has been to other states, and when it came time to fill up, "I didn't even know how."

"Even some men don't want to get that smell on their clothes," says Angela Fields, buying gas at a Delta station in Bloomfield, N.J. You don't get that smell on your clothes lol

Ok, if I'm in the bird..... I get out and fill it myself.

Only once a gas attendand gave me ***** for it..... I didn't let him fill the car... I left. Ages ago a gas attendant spilled gas all over the rear of my car.

In the neon or benz, F it... they can fill it.

Now, if people are too stupid to fill theor own tanks (ie smoking) let us weed out the stupid people and let them blow themselves up! We can use their bodies to fill potholes

coldkilla 05-17-2006 06:04 PM

yeah thats retarded, what the hell do these people do when they travel out of the state? just sit with a stupid look on their face until someone helps them out? i punched my friend in the face once when we were out in his car and he filled it up while smoking when i lived in cali. some people are retarded, and if having an attendant fill the gas for the car next to mine at the pump is gonna save my life cuz the driver is a moron, then ill take the attendant any day.

Firebird67dude 05-17-2006 06:11 PM

I pump my own gas no matter wat. If they bitch i stop give them the $1.25 i was able to pump myself and go to the one across the street. Most gas pumper guys dont care. Either way idc wat happens. Its not going to decrease the price of gas.All getting rif of the attendants will do is put more money in the owner's hands. MY boss's one buddy owns a gas station and say he looses the most money paying the attendant.

NJSPEEDER 05-17-2006 06:16 PM

when did they start training gas station attendants? the way most of them fumble around and spill gas all the time i am usually left wondering if they are sober, much less trained

Mike 05-17-2006 06:26 PM

i pump mine if someone isnt ready to help me within the time it takes to roll down the window and shut off the car......

people on motorcycles pump thier own so wtf does it even matter

camaro2you 05-17-2006 08:34 PM

im going to be the same way with the 98,86,and 88. my dad lets them pump the gas for the vette only cause hes to lazy to get out lol. we have a litte rubber piece that flips down to catch gas and the retart shut it in the door so my dad had to pull over and i had to get out to fix it lol.

thats how it should be, my uncle does that

Brando56894 05-17-2006 09:09 PM

i wouldnt mind pumping my own gas cuz some times its annoying when your at a big/busy station and its done pumping and you have to wait 5 mins for the guy to come over so u can pay him.

another thing was my friends mom was over here a few hours ago and she said at the mobil that me and my dad always go to they charged her credit card for $140 for one fill up! and she has an SUV like a cherokee or something

all the "attendants" there are mexicans that barely speak english

Dark_Knight7096 05-17-2006 10:34 PM

My favorite: I read in my local newspaper that senior groups are protesting this because some older seniors are unable to pump their own gas. They get confused easily and lack the physical capacity to pump their own gas. Ok, everyone feels bad for them....

but nobody sees the danger in that?!?! They are so "old and frail" that they are physically incapable of pumping their own gas but they are perfectly fine to get behind the wheel of a car and drive around, nobody else sees the HUGE problem with that argument??? I agree all it will do is increase profits for gas station owners, I guess they feel that if their profits are being increased they can lower the cost and still make the same profit, but look at the big oil companies, they are making record breaking profits and the price just keeps going up. Making gas stations self serve will do absolutely nothing more than put thousands of people out of jobs that will have a hard time finding more work. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't having a large number of unemployed hurt the economy? Politicians are retarded.

+1!

No offense to any gas attendants, however the once a month if that when I put gas in my Mustang, I always get out and do it myself. I have one of those "fancy" fuel doors which the attendants are always afraid to open, not to mention it is kinda hard (damn magnets!) One time an attendant scraped the nozzle right across the fuel door and put a nice scratch in it for me. Pumping our own gas might not be so bad after all!

BigAls87Z28 05-18-2006 09:16 AM

Meh, I dont mind it. I used to hate pumping gas in like 10* temps in Mass. Gas aint that bad, and its not gunna cause it to drop to sub-2 bucks people.

jola 05-18-2006 10:42 AM

ok, if it doesn't change the price of gas, what's the point? how many gas stations are there in NJ? a lot. henceforth, they employ a lot of people. jobs are good. also, i am lazy. when it is 12 degrees outside, i do not want to get out and pump my own gas. i don't know anyone who would. also, i know some stupid people i would not trust with a gas pump. also, my gas attendant is a nice guy.

trashman01 05-18-2006 10:59 AM

stop being bitches and pump yer own gas, it aint that hard or bad in the winter.

SSport 05-18-2006 11:06 AM

I could care less whether I pump my own gas or not, but now it's like a race to get to my gas cap so they don't slam it against the side of my car (most of them don't understand that's there's a hanger there to put the gas cap)

if you have a choice between pumping your own gas or not pumping your own gas (with no variables), which would you choose? just like when i was in school and my mom made my lunches. i was capable of making my own lunch, but why do it if there is a woman in the house who likes making lunches?

trashman01 05-18-2006 11:25 AM

i rather pump my own, it takes a whole whompinh 1 min outta my life, hell when i was in jersey visitin my girl(at the time) i pumped my own and the guy just stood their like wtf? idk maybe its just i live in CT where the gas tax is bout the same as current gas prices(damn ct for being a high tax state)

Tsar 05-18-2006 11:54 AM

its funny when we go across the border to PA and if we need gas we just sit there and wait for someone to come and do it for us. then after a few minutes we realize that we're in PA and that no one is gonna do it for us. we get some strange looks too

i used to live in FL so i dont care if i pump my own gas or not, but sometimes we forget.

Tru2Chevy 05-18-2006 01:28 PM

I don't really care either way. I am capable of pumping my own gas without a problem, and for those who aren't most stations will still have a full service pump or two that will cost a few cents more than the others.

BigAls87Z28 05-19-2006 12:21 AM

I might pump my own on my 72, but most of the time, Im in my warm car, while Abdula and Rockmad Muahmad are freezing there asses off pumping my gas at a sweet 2.80 a gallon instead of PA or worse, MA, where Im freezing my ass off, paying 3.10 or more a gallon.
Let me see....NJ FTW.

project89 05-19-2006 12:23 AM

heh theres only 2 gast stations i goto that i wont pump my gas at.thats only cause the guys working there are smart enough not to spill gas down the side of the car
