you are very right jew. when the idea first came out it was intended to be fiction. then when so much interest and contrieversy (liz will correct that for me) came from the idea, dan brown decided to act serious about it and make it seem factual based in order to publicize his book. it worked. the novel is written based on the psuedopigriphical scriptures found in Nag Hammadi, Egypt about 50 years ago which are crap. these scriptures consist of many gospels including the gospel of mary, the gospel of phillip, the gospel of truth, the infancy gospel of thomas (not to be confused with the regular gospel of thomas), the apocryphon of john, and a few others. i have read a few of them and they are indeed crap. they are not to be taken seriously. these scripts dont even date back to Jesus' time and Dan Brown doesn't even correctly quote these fake gospels! the story is nonetheless amusing and is very creative and i will see the movie.

yes it is an interesting book, its really keeps you wanting to read the next page. but once again, its a fiction book. there is almost 0 factual basis on this book

Frosty 05-22-2006 06:16 AM

I won't bother seeing it at the theater. I'm pretty religious but the whole idea of the story doesn't bother me one bit. I think it's good that people question our past history(considering some of the Bible was rewritten anyway(I think Mary Magdalen play a much more important role in history than she was portrayed)).

Anyway, I'll rent it when it comes out. It's looks somewhat entertaining.

There's not much fact but it certainly does entertain you doesn't it? I didn't read the book but I know enough of his "theories" and unless you really did deep to debunk his them they look legit.

Savage_Messiah 05-22-2006 07:15 AM

Saw it last night with some friends (I wanted to wait and read the book first, but I was bored out of my mind so I went with them)... I liked it

they are based on the Gnostic gospels which i have read in a religion class. reading them alone will reveal how crappy they are. and some of his points are untrue. its entertaining indeed and i too am religious but the response this whole thing is getting is sickening. i dare someone question Islam the same way Christianity is being questioned and see how quickly that guy is shot. everyone loves to pick on Christianity.

i really enjoyed the book and its prequel angels and demons. i think i'm gonna go see it with mom since we both read the book. i thought it was fantastic.
