So did anyone else hear about the NJ bill

that has been proposed to allow the state to use cameras to issue tickets for people speeding or going through red/yellow lights? I read about it 2 weeks ago and nobody seems to have noticed it and complained. The state will make a killing off the ability to issue tickets just from cameras at intersections. Those portable "this is your speed" stations will be able to issue speeding tickets as well. Better watch the way you drive!

LS1Hawk 06-08-2006 11:18 AM

Isn't there stuff that you can buy, e.g. sparys, covers, etc. that make your license plate invisible to those cameras that snap the pictures?

JL8Jeff 06-08-2006 11:43 AM

Yeah, but all that stuff is illegal as well. So now you would have another reason for a cop to pull you over.

BigAls87Z28 06-08-2006 11:43 AM

Sure is, but they can do some seroius stuff to you if you are caught with it on. Was this really approved? When will this go into effect? Why does NJ have to be a police state?

slugger27nj 06-08-2006 11:57 AM

I heard this on 101.5 two weeks ago. It was not approved, and I think it's only a proposal at this point (not a bill). Whatever it is....it's BS. Just another govt. fundraiser to pad their pensions.

V 06-08-2006 12:06 PM

but heres the one main issue that i remember hearing way back(but it may be wrong), in a court of law, you have the right to crossexamine your accuser. and in this case its a camera, something that cant be brought into court and questioned so if you plead not guilty and go to court it should be simple to win. The people who just accept it and pay it will still make the state a lot of money. like i said, i dont know how true that is though.

Fleetwiz 06-08-2006 12:12 PM

They already have do this in NYC and VA and DC, very hard to fight and win.

BigAls87Z28 06-08-2006 12:14 PM

Yeah, but they will say that the Camera never lies and that its always 100% true. Guilty untill proven innocent.

So the cop pulls you over for unclear license plate, then hits you with illegal tint, then finds your cats are missing and next thing you know you're paying hundreds of dollars in fines and your insurance goes up too. Why would you want to give a cop a good reason to pull you over in the first place? The last I heard was this camera ticket thing is a proposed bill but there is absolutely nobody fighting against it and it will sail right through. So be prepared!

Tru2Chevy 06-08-2006 02:03 PM

Ugh. That would suck.

Much like Jeff pointed out, and much like anyone knows...its never just one thing.
Its never "just a speeding ticket"
Its never "just a seat belt ticket"
Its a unclear licence plate...oh so that means you must be speeding...and since you took off your seat belt to get your wallet, that means you didnt have your seat belt on cause the cop didnt see you with it on. BTW, was that your cell phone that is sitting next to you? That cant be good. Is this exhaust legal? Sounds too loud to me. Can you tell me if this thing would pass a random inspection? Cause I dont think it would.

$600 dollars, 5 pts and a court date later, you are subjected to riding your Huffy to work every day.

coldkilla 06-08-2006 03:14 PM

well that coating you spray on your license plate is invisible so a cop would never be able to tell you have it on. ive used it before and it worked like a charm. i drove through a toll booth without paying to test it and i saw the camera go off but i never received a ticket in the mail, this was about 2 years ago. all it does is reflect the flash of the camera so your license plate is too bright to make out the letters/numbers. im sure that if you keep blowing off the same tolls tho they would just look out for your car and pull you over tho. i dont know for sure if the camera flash goes off during the daytime, i tried it at night, so i dont know how effective the spray is in daylight.

:werd:

i was just about to say that it was invisable

Big Brother is coming on strong!

qwikz28 06-09-2006 01:25 AM

anyone hear about the 30 day thing where NJ cops have to issue extra tickets to raise like 8 million or something ridiculous like that?

Brando56894 06-09-2006 03:20 AM

nah didnt hear about that

coldkilla 06-09-2006 07:23 AM

what you heard about was the click it or ticket program that ran for one week. its already over, but during that time police do not have descretion for giving seat belt tickets. if you are not wearing one then they have to give you a ticket, and they also had roadside checks for it.

Tsar 06-09-2006 08:29 AM

i guess no one payed attention to me not wearing one  slackers....

V 06-09-2006 01:35 PM

i got pulled over twice for "click it or ticket week", but i dont get tickets anymore so it didnt matter.

new jersey is lagging behind many states in this. PA already has cameras, most of the southwest uses these systems, and NYC installed cameras years ago.
the laws that are proposed are not open to put cameras everywhere. just in areas that are known for high accident/incident rates.
you can read that as, only put cameras where they can pay for themselves. lol

the moral of the story, don't drive like an *******!

79CamaroDiva 06-09-2006 06:43 PM

 i don't see the problem in this. From what i've heard its to ticket for people running red lights. i don't run red lights, so i don't have to worry about it. i would wawnt some jackass drunk who runs a red light be issued a summons and get tried for it. i fail to see a problem here. Driving isn't all about 'drive like an ******* unless a cops around' just drive like a freakin human being and you shouldn't have an issue.

yes, i go through yellow lights that i probably shouldn't. as long as everyone knows how long a yellow is, you have plenty of time to stop. (btw, the length of time a yellow lasts is determined by the speed limit in the area. a 40 mph zone, yellow lasts 4 seconds, a 35, its 3.5 seconds, 55 = 5.5 seconds and so on. this should have been taught in drivers ed)

enRo 06-09-2006 08:26 PM

They actually have 1 traffic light in my town with a camera on it, but its a metering signal meant for balancing traffic.

BonzoHansen 06-09-2006 10:26 PM

I got one from a DC camera. Speeding, not a red light. But there were no points.
