i believe you need to change out the gear in the trans
|
Yea, you have to swap your speedo gears.
What rear gears did you have, and what gears did you install? - Justin |
i swapped entire rear for rear i had a stock rear in my 92 which i guess were something small lower then 3.42s. I put a rear in from an 89 iroc which i beleive has the stock gears which i don't remember what size gears were in it and its a 9 bolt. If u can figure anything out from this let me know i need to get the speedo fixed. Thanks

Well in order to fix the speedo, you will have to know what gears are in your car now.

Man, I once found a site that had a calculator for this. I'll try to find it again. And somewhere in my great archive is a Super Chevy that shows you how to do it and lists all of the available gears. But neither helps you now.
You need Tire OD, Gear ratio and how many teeth are on the speedo drive gear on the output shaft. Usually you can get by changing the driven gear (the one that comes out). Man, the 92 still uses a cable? Damn old cars. :) |
Stop looking, I found it (thanks Google)
http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/speedo_gears.htm I was right about what you need to figure it out. |
Yeah just gotta get the right gears for the speedo. One reason why mine isnt hooked up because it will be like 30 MPH off with those 4:10s.

When Bob Maguire Part store used to be down here in Bordentown (not at the dealership) I was able to get them no problem. But since then they have been a little hard to find. Im just gonna wait till the new trans goes in and do it all at once then.

i got my speedo gears from gmpartsdirect. i got hit pretty good on teh shipping, but it is the only reliable source i could find
teh tci site supplies both tci and GM part numbers, so you shoudl be able to jsut go to your local GM dealership parts counter and order the gears. |
