Plugs and Wires

Would it be possible for one of the North Jersey members to give me a hand replacing the plugs and wires. I know its a pain in the ass but it needs to be done and im not 100% sure whats going on. Ill pay you for gas money and stuff. Thanks!

Dan

Tsar 06-30-2006 09:03 PM

plugs and wires on a stock LT1? err...i paid to do mine  my hands dont even fit in some of those places.

Brando56894 06-30-2006 10:32 PM

yea from what ive heard its a major PITA, see how much theyd charge you to get it done, might actually be worth it. LS1 (style) FTW!!

i paid 260ish i think. and yes its a mojor pain in the ass unless u have aftermarket headers.

camaro2you 06-30-2006 11:21 PM

even ls1 plugs are a bitch the worst is the last one on the pass side near the ac/heater box.

Tru2Chevy 07-01-2006 05:23 AM

Do you have headers?

If not, you might want to buy them. Makes changing plugs and wires 10x easier.

from what you heard... oh, i guess it's what you heard as me and my dad did the whole change for you on your car

I'd be willing to give a hand, but I probably won't be aroudn when you do em unless its next month

My uncle changed mine. I called him and asked him how hard it was, he laughed...he told me he would have to remove half my A/C on my passanger side just to do them, and he said the #8 plug is a not fun. Pay to have it done, you will thank me. I have Boch 2x Platium and MSD Wires, the wires made a difference!

Bandit 07-11-2006 02:57 PM

GM wanted 400 for the spark plug change on my 96 WS6 and I could not bribe or beg anyone to help do the job.

Left the original set in when I sold the car 5 years later.. The LS1 looked easy but still a PITA nothingl like the LT1 though.

Personally I think its a huge pain in the ass. The drivers side is defenitly do-able in your drive-way but the passanger side is the big problem. I gave up when I tried  If you have plenty of time one weekend Its possible to do with a buddy. Make sure the front end is off the ground enough to be under it. You'll need to be on the top & bottom of the car for it to possibly work. Just be patient especially on the last ones closest to the firewall.

Currently Im running NGKTR55's & Taylor 8.8 Wires and soon to have an MSD Opti. I was pretty pleased with it after I payed someone to install the plugs & wires.

never changed the plugs on an LS1 but i have the LS1 style v6 and it wasnt that hard. the hardest thing was getting those stupid heatshield/boot protectors off

deadtrend1 07-12-2006 04:41 PM

so, just cause something is hard then they shouldn't do it and should pay someone else to???

Everything on the car is tough to do, but it is do-able.

Savage_Messiah 07-12-2006 05:07 PM

No brandon, I did most of it and my dad was definately in scond place with that lol.

Firebird67dude 07-12-2006 05:20 PM

Ive done my wires about 8 times, due to reasons i dont feel like saying at the moment. U ppl. are babies. They arent that hard. The hardesty part is routing them. I did then 4 times out the the 8 in my driveway and/or street.

aftermarket header FTW!!!!!1111one

ps- NGKs w/ MSD wires FTW also

Silent Z 07-12-2006 08:39 PM

After doing the plugs and wires 2 X on my car I found that its easier to pull the Alternator and remove the the bracket. It was much quicker the 2nd time around! Just my .02 lol

I dont know what happened when the designed the LT1. But those group of guys need a big kick in the crotch. I was changing my spark plugs a few months ago, i have aftermarket BBK headers. I got 5 of the 8 out, but i could not get a socket in passed the headers to get the rest.... it was physically impossible... So i had to put the 5 back in and try to think of an idea. I had a good friend of mine switch them out for me, and he took a spark plug socket and cut it in half. Then filed the sides down to fit a wrench on it and had to get the plugs out that way. In-genius... i have the socket as part of my MUST HAVE CAMARO tools. If he did not create that tool we would have to pull the headers to change the plugs.....
