Holy Crap!
I finally got to take the 70 SS396 for a drive since I got it titled and registered today. All I can say is that the car is a beast and there's no way to drive it slowly! And I can't tell if the speedo is accurate or if the tach is accurate but I need to figure them out. I was cruising up my road at what I thought was around 35 mph until I realized that was the tach! DOH! This thing is over 3000 rpm's in 4th gear with the speedo reading 50 pretty dam fast so I have no idea what gears are actually in the car. The hardest part is getting used to the different shift behavior compared to the 5 speed in the SLowRunner. But what a rush! :drive:

Getting a handle of that clutch?

It's gonna take some getting used to but the shifter behavior and pattern are throwing me off more than the clutch. I just checked the rear and I know it isn't the original 12 bolt rear. It's coded as a 3.07 non-posi but I just jacked the car up and it's definitely a posi and it worked out to a 3.55 ratio which is what the original rear was in the car. I'd love to check the part #'s and dates on the gears but that's not a good enough reason to open the rear. So it looks like the tach and speedo are accurate.

Sounds like a fun car to drive, dont forget Jeff it needs the good stuff for fuel. I mix sunoco purple raceing fuel with sunoco 93 octane (1 to 1 mix) in my 69Z and it runs great.but when i just use plain 93 pump gas it doesnt run for ****. Keep it on the good stuff and it will be a happy car!

It doesn't have the original heads on it so that may allow it to run better on the fuel we have today. Right now the engine is kind of a mystery to me, but it sure seems to run pretty strong.
