How does it work to get a Firearm id in NJ?

I have heard different things from many different people. Do I just go down to my local police station and say i want to apply for a firearm id or what? I dont want to carry a weapon or anything or have anything to do with getting a pistol permit which i heard is hard to get. Can someone break down the whole process for me? Thanks

Just go to your local police station and get a application. Its simple you need two references other than family. You fill there addresse's on the app and they will send a form to fill out and they have to send it back. They also will fingerprint you as well. Its a simple process one page application. Its takes an act of god to get a carry permit in NJ.

go to local PD, make sure you have money and stuff, theyll give u paperwork and what not, -- this is what a guy at work told me . then you have like 90 days to get a gun. i think u have to be 21 to get a pistol in NJ.
