Killed the motor on the way home

despite having some major ignition and fueling issues today i ran the car anyways.not to well at that.after the first 3 passes with almost no boost due to a bad boost controler i decide to unhook the wastegate for one final pass.this time i get 18psi about 200' out but all the sudden the car starts to buck and i hear a bang around the 330' mark and the car shuts right off.ok so after coasting most of the way down the track i get it restarted,no noise or smoke everything seems fine.Well about halfway home the car starts smoking out the ex system.so i take it over to the shop and do a leakdown test cyls 1 threw 4 avg about 21% well i get to cyls 5&6 #5 had 43% and cyl #6 had 57% .im quessing the thing detonated so hard on that last pass that i broke the ringlands,or the rings  lol last time i try to run that much boost on a stock cast pistion

Well, I think I can safely say... I think you blew the motor when u had thoughts of turboing  Good luck with it.

project89 08-20-2006 07:33 PM

lol no i blew it when i droped that bone stock motor in the car when i purposly blew up my good motor that had the forged pistion in it.thing that gets me is on the 2 passes i actually made it to the 1/8th mile mark i actually ran decent times
both in the 7.2-7.6 range.just couldnt keep the car under power the rest of the way down to track due to detonation and backfiring

edit make that 7.4-7.7

Thanks for selling us your excuses. My stock 2.8 runs faster than your turbo. Taking the wastegate off, not smart. To be honest, we all expected it to blow up.

But for now, I guess I'll go back to scratching my head about why the speakers in the headrests of the 85 GT haven't caused that car to burn to the ground. I wonder...

 All in good fun.
