To the people who drag race/ familiar with NHRA rules
What constitutes a "battery hold down?"
In the past, I may have looked at this rule.... and used my interpretation of it.... :) Zip ties RULE! But.... I think I should make the car more "legal." I am relocating my battery a little father back in the engine bay..... about 2 1/2 feet back... and I am limited on room. I plan on mounting it to the frame rail... and have a metal strap over the top. I wonder if that is legit? |
my understanding is basically that it jsut has to be held firmly in place. i have seen metal straps, belts, and stock style hold downs used lots of times on relocated batts.
just get it secured in a way that it doesn't move around if you tug on it and you should be good |
Zip ties keep it snug ;)

If it looks half-assed they will fail you, the rule can be subjective.
|
what about relocating it to the rear of the car?

i say a strap would suffice, but i dont know **** so dont listen to me |
Wat if u put it inplace of ur passenger seat? Just bolt it down to the floor.
|
If you have a hatchback you will need a firewall between the battery and the trunk. You cannot have it in a passenger compartment.
|
all relocated battries have to be secured to a frame rail threaded rod can be used but it cant move at all ---- some tracks check---- if u pass island you can race anywhere in the USA --- jz

Ok, cool.
I had the set up in the trunk area many years ago.... but ran into too many charging issues when I went with the dual bottle/ warmer set up. This will still be in the engine bay..... just in place of the heater core. Pic's to come Thanks! |
uhhh, yeah.. what they all said.
and if its relocated to the trunk you also need to have a on/off switch on the back of the car... any other questions, ask johnjzjz... he's smarter than me ;) |
