Respect the NEON Type-R!

Yes.... the nitrous guy drove one of the most mysterious type of power adder cars out there..... it had one of those new fangled TURBO chargers!!!!

The maf on the bird crapped out for some unknown reason just a couple days before running.... I didn't have the spare $$$$ for a replacement so I snagged my buddies car.

2004 Dodge Neon SRT4
Mods:
stage 2
3 inch down pipe
No cat
Side exhaust
Continental lame @ss tires in front.

I lowered the front to 27 psi
Raised the rear to 42.

My only experience with a manual car at the track is my 2004 neon SXT.... which runs a blistering 15.7 seconds!

So here are the results:

I had serious wheel spin/ wheel hop in first gear, top of first gear, second gear.... the shifter knob popped off on three seperate runs.... if the wheel hop/ wheel spin was bad I gave up.

All in all, it was a good day.

I spoke with the owner of the car and he told me my mph was low and ET wasn't the best... I was asked if I power shifted, I said no, I am not fast enouigh for it....I was told that is key for great times in this car.

The turbo was relatively easy to figure out. 17 punds of boost.

The horrible continental tires (bought used) that are on the car is what really held me back.

I am used to drag racing a RWD car.... with some type of drag radial or slick on it..... so this was interesting.

So... the nitrous guy drove a turbo car at the track.... it took a couple rounds but I became DAMN consistent.... on a 17 psi FWD manual street tire car.

I thought they were good for low 14's right out of the box. With mods I would think it should be much better than that. I guess it needs more stickers!

12secondv6 09-29-2006 09:56 AM

They do..... the owner (surya) has gone 13.6 w/ just stage 2.

This is my first time at the track w/ a boosted car. I didn't power shift because I'm too slow. I've only driven this car a handful of times (maybe 5?)

12secondv6 09-29-2006 10:37 AM

Oh yeah, special thanks to mr juice.... cause he gave me his car :)

j0n 09-29-2006 10:46 AM

james it turns out fish(blue neon guy) doesnt have motor mounts...so i dunno why he didnt have wheel hop issues

foff667 09-29-2006 11:14 AM

dude 2.30+ 60's all day arent going to help those times...if you could get them into the 2.0 range that would be a mid 13 second car all day...and whats up with the shift popping off several times  build quality at it finest?

oh and without powershifting the boost is probably dropping a ton and having to respool so I can see that as being a problem. But you defintly suck at the driver mod...keep to two pedals James.

12secondv6 09-29-2006 02:44 PM

There is no way in hell I could get a 2.0 60 ft on those tires.

And yes..... it looses boost in between shifts and has to respool for each gear.

That hurts times.

I like my A4's!

firehawk1120 09-29-2006 02:47 PM

if james had knees he'd be able to drive a car with 3 pedals, but since they are just nubs like the grandfather in King of the Hill he has a hard time doing anything that requires the knees to flex.

12secondv6 09-29-2006 02:48 PM

 You are older than me!

His left knee has had major surgery on it 3 times. It doesn't move fast enough

Ian 09-30-2006 10:06 AM

oh, okay. maybe next time you have surgery on it you can have them install a grease fitting or something
