Commodore to come to US as Pontiac in 07

Commodore Begins Global Tour Toby Hagon 29 September 2006 www.drive.com.au It's official: Holden’s Commodore is heading to America. A Pontiac-badged Commodore will be unveiled at the Chicago motor show in 2007, signalling the start of the Commodore’s global tour. Speaking at this week's Paris motor show, General Motors product guru Bob Lutz did more than hint that the Commodore would wear a Pontiac nose and badges before long. “Come to the Chicago auto show and all we be revealed,” said a smiling Lutz, who earlier praised Holden and the new Commodore for being one of “the best vehicles GM has produced”. Speculation has been rife about Commodores being built in other markets, but nothing has been confirmed to date. However Lutz’s admission to drive.com.au confirms the rumours that the Commodore could be built in markets such as the United States to provide a large, rear-drive car to help revive General Motors’ ageing vehicles. The Commodore’s architecture is also expected to spawn many more rear-drive cars within the General Motors world, starting with the born-again Chevrolet Camaro that was unveiled at the 2006 Detroit motor show in concept form. The Pontiac “Commodore”, which is expected to wear a different name when it goes on sale in the States in 2007, is not the first time a Pontiac has been spawned from a Holden. Three years ago Holden sent Monaros to the 'States with fresh noses and Pontiac GTO badges to revive one of the most famous nameplates in Pontiac’s history. Like that car, the rebadged Commodore is expected to get some minor changes, including the classic Pontiac twin-nostril grille. http://img.drive.com.au/drive_images...29comm1M_m.jpg |

This is the NEW Commodore built off teh VE chassis. The GTO/Monaro along with its last gen Commodore and other RWD Holdens were built off the VZ platform. VE and Zeta will have a lot in common.
Of course it will have a Pontiac-ized face. There have been rumors of this car coming to the US, but this is the first word out of GM. Mostly likely will be V8 only, choice of trans will be a 6spd auto or 6spd manual trans. IRS rear Multi-link, different then the trailing arm set up of the GTO. It will also have all the saftey stuff such as dual -stage air bags, tire pressure sensors, side curtain air aigs, as well as other neat-o things like navigation, OnStart, heated seats, Stabilitrac, and some other things. If you look on GMI, you can see the whole public release fo the VE/WM Holden Cars. |
that is very cool news.
it is starting to sound like they should take away the old "excitement division" handle and replace it with "bimmer hunter division" :) gm going head to head for a segment dominated beuropean brands should make for some interesting toys coming our way. i love it :D |
I think this will have much more sucess then the GTO did.
#1- brand new chassis #2- 4dr #3- No historical name to live up to #4- offers a lot more cool compared to the Charger. |

Im not really saying it as a bad thing, but look at that... looks pretty much the same to me, reguardless of LS2 or not. |
you have a link to any interior shots of the commodore?
did they say anything about pricing yet? |
is it wrong that i want that mazda too?
|
This is also better news, and throws a wrench into everyones plans.

Al- any legitimacy to the statement saying the camaro will be in production 12 months earlier then (or is it than... liz?) expected? |
I think after all the wild rumors leading up to the Camaro's unveiling, we should just sit back, relax, and enjoy knowing that a Camaro is on the way at some point. Speculation is as useless as Monday morning football discussions.
