another funny 'i'm an idiot' story...
Yesterday I was driving around in my camaro and i came up to a traffic light where iw as making a right turn, but there was a giant SUV next to me that i had to creep up to see around.. before i even got stopped a car behind me honks his horn.. i stop, and look behind me and its this guy freaking out, yelling at me to make the right... whatever, so i creep up more and he honks again, at this point im like wtf?! so i stop completely and flip him off. next thing i hear is a voice over a PA saying "you can make a right on red" and me saying "ohhhhhh **** i just flipped off a cop!" Suprisingly, he didnt pull me over, i dont know if he could have for that or not.. he just made the right behind me, paced me side by side for a while and then took off somewhere...
go undercover plain-clothed cops. |
 yeah well atleast the guy was cool about it.

Up to date documentation = $100
Good tires = $400 No obvious mods = $5000 Flipping off an unmarked cop car = Priceless |
haha thats great
|
i would have flipped him off again. theres no law saying you MUST make a right on red ;)
|
He must have been late with the doughnuts!
|
actually i think you can be pulled over for not making a right on red if your clear to do so, something with hindering hte flow of traffic or something like that

And it is not illegal to flip off a cop so you couldn't be charged with an offense, but I do think that they can pull you over if their feel like beeing a dick... |

ie: doing 20mph under the limit on the highway while riding in between the lanes at a sred light there is no obligation to do anything but stop, once you have stopped you are allowed to make a right on red, but you can't be forced to. |
you were still checking if youw ere clear, and that's allowed. and, plain clothed cops cannot pull you over. they must be in uniform to issue any kind of ticket.

Failure TO COMPLY TO AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE IS 5 POINTS I THINK -jz |

now that this dead horse has successfully been beaten unmercifully, i think i will add my own .02 - for what it's worth:
nj state law on right on red: right on red is permitted where not prohibited by a sign that states "no right on red", and may be performed after coming to a complete stop, yielding to oncoming traffic and when it is safe to proceed (obviously not verbatim). all you have to claim to someone complaining is that you didn't feel safe making the right on red. i can't believe a cop would make that big a deal about something as benign as this, but it takes all types. as far as a cop pulling you over... as long as he has his emergency lights on, you should pull over. this brings a whole different set of circumstances into light, as in: is he in uniform, does he have proper credentials (ie, badge, id card, etc), is he able to produce a uniformed officer. if an unmarked car pulled me over and the officer was not in uniform, i would hesitate to cooperate with him only because it is very easy to outfit a late model crown vic (or caprice) with emergency lights (see gall's catalog) and not be a cop. if he was able to produce a uniformed officer, obviously that would change everything. of course, always fall back on the "i didn't feel safe" excuse. |
