i give up
i give up on f-bodies. I guess i wasnt ment to own one? something happned to the camaro. I say something because i have no idea what happned !!!!!!HELP ME My roommate says I blew the front main seal. BUT Ive talked to alota ppl and they say that that seal dosnt blow often... my clutch is shot because there is oil all over it... ugh i quit. There is a nice rattling coming out of the bottom of the engine when it gets warm too????
well what happned was, I was driving in brick and i came to a light. Light changed and i went, not beating on the car or anything just normal driving. I get to second gear and the car just goes blah. I was like what now!!!! so i happen to glance out the side view and see a cloud of smoke coming from the rear of the car... * sobs* I thought that maybe my rear calibers had siezed cuz when i got out the smoke was mainly coming from the whells. BUT when a lovely Brick cop showed up and told me to move it or else it moved fine (we pushed it)! so not the calipers. My roommate came and towed it back to the house and drove the damn thing!!! I went under the car yesterday and there seems to be a little oil coming outa the timing chain cover but im not sure.UGH! i give up first the Trans Am and now this. Im gunna take it to a friend of mine and have it looked at. If I can fix it then so be it if not.... i guess ill sell it. |
Well, if there is oil on the clutch, it's most likely the rear main seal that went. Maybe it was both?
Get it up on a lift and have it looked at.... - Justin |
thats what i thought but how the hell did i do that!!!????
|
it happens over time. i bet it wasnt sudden, more that you just noticed it
|
* drops $17,447.50 down toilet, flushes*
|
ill give ya 1500 bucks for it
|
ummm no
|
What Jake said....seals go bad over time. If that's what it is, then chances are you didn't break it - it just wore out.
Depending on how much oil is on the clutch, it may or may not need to be replaced. I've seen them get some oil on them and end up being just fine after a cleanup and a little bit of driving.... - Justin |
what do u mean by a cleanup? like take the clutch out? i checked the oil and its full. but what about that rattling? It happens after the car idles for a while im gunna go and start it OH! and theres a burning smell too. maybe oil?
|
ok its running REALLY REALLY rich the engine sounds fine tho.. but there is that rattling. oil pressure is good. everyting looks normal. I didnt drive it tho kinda afraid to lol.
|
As I said before - get it up on a lift of jackstands and have someone get under there and check it out....
It doesn't take much burning oil to make lots of smoke. - Justin |
this may sound kinda stupid but the car had a pretty noticeable missfire. could that have dont anything. Cuz in all honesty there isnt that much oil flying around.. my roommate finally jacked it up and i got to look under there....
|
I think you need to have it looked at by a professional.....one minute the car is running fine, then it's rich, now it has a misfire?
- Justin |
ok wait lemme explain when i say fine i mean running the way it was before ( which includes the missfire )like its not revving and falling or idling high It sounds normal untill it gets warm and u hear that rattling... and when i started it before i stood behind it and almost gaged. OMG WHATS GOING ON!!!
But either was i am taking it to a pro. I spent WAY TO MUCH MONEY to just let this go. I just wanted someone else besides my roomates thoughts on what could be wrong this sucks |
rattling.. bogged down/reduced performance... smells
does the car still have a cat? |
Which car are you talking about, you have 2 Camaros in your sig? Sounds like a problem with MAF or TPS or computer that is throwing off your mixture. I don't think the oil issue has anything to do with the car running right. You might be dripping some oil onto the exhaust somewhere causing the burning smell.
|
check the seal for the opti into the timing cover, if that came out, oil would go down and back and if it got into the opti itself it would cause misses and it to run like crap.
BTW this should have been posted in the engine section, and will get moved shortly... |
banging noise? Can you pinpoint where its coming from?
|
Quote:
Smell, oil leak, how about the imfamous LT1 intake leak? |
if the car is lowered that "banging" noise is probably your torque arm hitting the tunnel
|
yeah the car has a cat and the banging roise is more of a rattling.Definetely not the torque arm. Its coming fromthe bottom of the engine like in the oil pan(?) but the car is going to a performance shop today or tomorrow. I swear if its something stilly, like the cat,or i simply spun a bearing thats causing all this im gunna lose my mine. But i really doubt its the cat, Its not that smell. it a rich fuel smell and burning band-aids??. Oh that damn intake leak... i wish that was the only problem!lol I mean the car runs! i took it around the block 3 times yesterday! It shifted allright but theres a definite loss in power.HA! but i didnt notice the miss!!!!! grrr im so confused. should i just blow it up? Im gunna fix it and sell it i think ugh....
OHH one more question If worst case senario, the engine was crapped out and i wanted to take the engine outa the T/A could i do that?Swap out all the fun bolt ons and what not? I know theres a bazillion things to do believe me. Me and a friend steve just put a 350 in my B/F's truck..fun. but is it possible?? My room mate was babbling something about a pontiac 350 and a chevy 350? Two different LT1's?? (he talks outa his rear alot) I've noticed that the dist.cap on the T/A is a little diffrerent then the one on the Z28? And which computer would i use ? Could i use the computer thats in the Z28 now and just have it re-tuned? Thanks |
The 93 LT1 is quite a bit different from the 94 on up. There might be some sensors missing from the 93 so you would need to use the 93 wiring and computer to make it run like a 93 which is speed density. It wouldn't be a straight swap, that's for sure. It has nothing to do with Pontiac LT1 vs Chevy LT1 though. So yeah, he was talking out his rear again!

Did you drain your oil and look for metal on the drain plug? Do you still have good oil pressure? Sounds to me like there is going to be more then one thing going on with it. I would check the oil first and if you start losing pressure as it warms up it could be a main bearing. For the misfire I would guess you could have gotten oil in the opti if the front seal is leaking.
