mtg6486 10-11-2006 11:28 AM

lol was it locked

foff667 10-11-2006 11:43 AM

mtg it doesnt matter if it is or not...this has happened to hundreds of people including myself. Unfortunatly I don't have a ttop for you, but check cz28 & ls1tech...you might find what you need there.

LS1Hawk 10-11-2006 12:46 PM

I've heard of that happening before. But I can't see how it would? Maybe the handle wasn't down all the way?

maroman88 10-11-2006 01:03 PM

my 92 had ttops and i never understood how people lost em either lol

in my case I was going at a high rate of speed under accelleration with the drivers window open...passenger TTop came off...not locked but definitly latched. locking really makes no difference though as long as its latched. Personally i think in my case it was partially chassis flex+the air pressure that did the trick.

Knipps 10-11-2006 02:02 PM

No ttops = no worries
doesn't mean i don't wish i had them :-?

firehawk1120 10-11-2006 02:56 PM

happened to me too driver side, def. latched and more then likely locked but I can't guarantee it because I never found the top... Had the window open a little bit and heard a whisteling sound, doing about 80, went to put the window down and when the wind rushed in the top went flying. If I hadn't put my hand up the damn thing would have hit me in the head and who knows what would have happened.
Luckily no one was around when it happened, but 2 min later is started downpouring and I had to drive all the way home without a top... THAT SUCKED.

Seems to be much more common with the 4th gen guys than the 3rd gens.

3rd gen FTW!

Yea i lost a driver's side too. at about 60 mph i doewn shifted and took off with both windows down and see ya. made a nice sound right b4 it cliped the back of my head then flew away to shatterd on the highway behind me.

OoO not the hyjack the thread but does anyone have the dot matrix t tops? I trade for those with my i guess stock tinted ones that i have on the car now?

jin1481 10-11-2006 06:14 PM

speaking of dot matrix, my driver side is but my passenger is just plain tint...and wont lock with my key.

BonzoHansen 10-12-2006 09:29 PM

It is always the driver's side

errr...

LS1Hawk 10-13-2006 06:00 AM

Damn, hope that doesn't happen to mine. It seems the common trait here is having the windows open...but a nice day out, the windows are always open on my car and that ain't changing. I wonder if there are any reported deaths by T-Top?! Could you imagine driving down the highway and one comes flying through your windshield?

Can i trade my clear ones with the lock key for the matrix ones?

qwikz28 10-13-2006 06:05 PM

when my driversside one came off it left striations going up the plastic to prove i had it locked in. happened a month after i got my car :(

so what are you trying to say Justin? I'm an idiot because I own a third gen and managed to lose one on a rainy night of all times? Huh? just kidding...

97Formula 10-14-2006 10:19 PM

OMG! Is this really happening to t-top cars? If so, what can I do to prevent this from happening to mine? Thanks!

V 10-15-2006 01:50 AM

Tim, id rather not trade because i'm trying to unload all my parts and make room.
