i was thinking the same thing. chances are if someone did make a song about cars now it would be singing about lambo doors on civics and screaming 4 cylinders blazing the 1/4 in 16 seconds.

that was a real cool video

NJSPEEDER 10-17-2006 11:34 AM

thats cool as hell.
did you ever find that episode of inside drag racing that was about island?

Untamed 10-17-2006 11:37 AM

That was awesome!

Im gonna have to show my dad this when he gets home. He was a gearhead and went to island almost every week in the late 60's/early 70's, racing his 10 second Belvedere. Very good find melissa!

79dizZy28 10-17-2006 01:36 PM

Ian...those freaking things are awesome. One thing though. I went to a junkyard in Maine and there is (I know its still there and I will someday be going back for it) a 59 or 60 Elky with a 348 Tri-Power 4speed car. Its sitting on top of an old wrecker off the ground and outta the snow. Engine is complete body was decent. Those Impalas and Biscaynes are pretty much brand new. Wonder if any were 409 cars. That is a SWEET find!

Edit* Also see a HD Poncho, late 50s/early 60s Thunderbirds. *Besides from the obvious 55-57 Chevys and vettes.

Didn't they break 200 for the first time there, maybe Garlits? Or some record like that.

baddest434 10-17-2006 04:33 PM

that was cool as hell. nice find

enRo 10-17-2006 05:07 PM

I showed my dad. He was very impressed. He said "Damnit, if it was a cpl years later, you might see me there" .

Makes me wonder how many of those are in a junkard/campbell soup can

That's great! I sent it to my dad too, he won some race back in the 60's at Island. He beat all the 4 speed guys with his automatic! One of those cars looks like a super duty Pontiac with the 8 lug wheels.
