fly wheel

hey guys if u have a cracked flywheel how will u know i mean does it make somekinda sound or something...

deadtrend1 12-06-2006 08:24 PM

you would definetly feel it in the clutch

Kid Racer 12-06-2006 08:26 PM

i have an auto

IROCdan330 12-06-2006 08:38 PM

that would be a flexplate then killer.

and yea, a cracked flexplate can make a noise, and/or cause a vibration. most of the time you will hear the noise while cranking.

deadtrend1 12-06-2006 08:39 PM

then its a flex plate, not a flywheel. Jack the car up, pull off the inscpection cover and look at it and see if its messed up

and these questions belong in the tech forms....

Kid Racer 12-06-2006 08:43 PM

okay well its making a litle tapping noise almost like a lifter does but its not a lifter..and some times its loud and sometimes its not...

Flexplate failures are rare, i would look into an exhaust leak.

i belive my 86 had the same sound that you have, when i pulled the flywheel off i noticed it was cracked and i am 99% sure it came off like that and it didnt happen from breaking the bolts loose. it would almost make a sound like if u put a piece of paper in a plastic fan.

I've seen them crack around the mounting area. It will cause vibrations. I guess it could make sound or cause weird starter engagement. Rare, but it does happen.
