Anyone reccomend a good gear installer
 

Ive had nothing but sucess going to one paticular mechanic for all of my gear swaps on my previous cars starting back in the early 90's. Mainly F & G bodies, they came out DEAD QUIET.. EVERY TIME, 3.73's to 4.30's GM (AAM) gears to Motives, (Never done Richmonds though) problem is, he no longer does them, he works for snap on now. I tried another guy and Im sure he did a good job but it made some noise on the highway, i bought all new gears, bearings & seals and attempted it myself.... worse noise. I suck what can I say. Now I have the rear out of the car, im looking for any one with personal experiance who has had 4.10's installed on a GM 7.5 10 bolt and did not hear any whine at any speed. Id like to know who did them and if they still do them. I once had a S-10 pick up that had 3.73's and the guy who sold it to me said they were set up by Richie at North Jersey preformance, I was thinking of dropping it off there. Any insight would be apreciated.

Alamantia, all aftermarket gears will make some kind of noise, its just keeping it to a minimum is all you can do. This is done by making sure the install is correct and that the pattern is as close to perfect as can be..

Richie at North Jersey Performance recently sold his business and retired, so that's not going to work out for ya. :( He did great work too. From what I heard, he sold off to real-estate developers, so I don't think another automotive shop is going in there.

Yeah, hes been around for years, He did a lot of work on my dads Boss 302 back in the 70's, I never delt with him though. I have done some rears in the past in my fathers shop, but just mainly pinion seals and carrier bearings where you just put everything back they way you take it apart, I only attemped setting up gears a hand full of times and they always made some sort of noise, some guys can do it, not me.. lol

I could get factory gears, do you think it would make a difference?

All Star Transmission over here in North Haledon has a good rep for gear installs. Thats probably where I'll end up in a few weeks.

Stage 1 on rt 23 north in Pompton Plains. He installed the 4.10's in my 12 bolt, and they are dead quiet. I highly recomend them.

+1 for Andy. He's building my 12 bolt right now and he did my Dana 60 front rear for my truck. He does awesome work.

cool, I got Richie from North Jersey to set up my spare rear, but he is moving to SC in a few weeks. I will soon be pulling the current (noisy) rear out and installing my spare which Richie did. If everything is all good with that one, I will rip apart my current rear, which will now be out of the car, clean it up, paint it and buy new gears and bring it to Andy at Stage 1 in the spring, because thats close to me. I will then keep it as a back up for when i blow up the rear Richie did, dont you love how I am already anticipating blowing it up???
