Don't say "watch this" and then do a 360 with the instructor in the car thinking he/she will appreciate your skill & control.

if you are uncertain of the instructions given, ASK again, if still unsure ASK AGAIN, it doesnt hurt so just make sure u do what they want, dont assume anything.

if going in a personal car, make sure you have all registration, insurance, inspection etc, and are with a licensed driver. Wear seatbelt, check mirrors, and WAIT to be told what to do.

firehawk1120 01-09-2007 11:40 AM

put your seatbelt on before starting the car.

Ask the instructor to do so as well if they don't automatically.

GO slow it's not a speed test it's a test on conducting yourself according to the rules of the course.

Relax it's not gonna kill you if you fail. Pay attention to directions and take your time.

Anti_Rice_Guy 01-09-2007 02:29 PM

Be very slow and careful, stay stopped for at least 5 seconds at a stop sign, or they will say you didn't stop full enough. be polite, dress nicely.

I've heard stories of people failing their test in the rain because they forgot to turn on their headlights with the wipers. Don't know if its true but just to play it safe don't forget it.

And dont make fun of your instructors personal hygiene, they might take offense to it...

deadtrend1 01-09-2007 03:28 PM

also if you take a personal car, make sure every light and turn signal bulb works or you cant use it.

Man, I still kinda rememebr my driving test. I was nervous at first too but its not all that bad. Just pay attention to your surroundings and what the instructor asks you to do.

Man, I took 3 driving tests within a one year period last year. Nervous each time too ....

Firebird67dude 01-09-2007 03:43 PM

Make sure the instructor puts his seatbelt on. My friend did the test perfect and failed becuase he did not ask the instructor to wear his seatbelt.

PBodyGT87 01-09-2007 04:47 PM

Have your radio turned off. Ask Instructor to put on seatbelt. Check your mirrors. Wait to be told you may start. Do not miss the first stop sign. You can go as slow as you want to. Watch out for the yield sign, look both ways and slow down, stop completely only if necessary like for another car coming on the course. If it's raining out when you take your test make sure to put on the headlights along with your wipers. Go as early as possible (they are less cranky then)

NJ givess 4 tries for parallel parking. When you do your straight back up, make sure to put your left hand at the top of the wheel and your right arm across the back-top of the passenger seat. Otherwise during the course hands must be on Ten and Two. They also look to see that you are using hand-over-hand steering. Do not palm any turns, and do notlet the wheel slide through your hands. You must show complete control over the wheel at all times.

And, RELAX. Nervousness will screw you up.

Remember that k-turns are obsolete and take entirely too much time to complete. Instead, floor it and cut the wheel in the direction you want to turn, correct the oversteer, and continue in the opposite direction. If you are in a fwd vehicle do the same but pull the emergency brake to initiate the skid and release it once you are facing the direction you want to go. Good luck.

TransAm619 01-09-2007 08:53 PM

this may seem retarded but use the bathroom b4 u go. During my brothers second test (took him 4 times to pass)( and yes, i kno it dosnt help to hear that) he hadda pee and thats all he was thinking about, at least thats what he said

and like everyone else said..Be calm

and make the car as comfy as possible for the guy. meaning, if its cold.. put the heat on b4 he gets in so its warm. i took mine is the dead of summer and i had the ac blasting b4 he got in and the first thing he said was "ahhhh, that last car was a sweat box"
