Serious question
 

Ok so today, i got a notice on my door saying that i have to remove my IROC off my own property because it is unregistered. Now did anyone have this problem before with the town that they live in? And if you did how did you handle it? I got 10 days to do something or it is thousand dollar fine for it. I know it is because my ******* neighbor called the town about my car. stupid prick hasnt like us since we moved in and has called the cops every chance he got. I know the car isnt leaking anything and isnt causing any problem with anyone else. THe car has no plates and it is undrivable because its needs a new engine. Hmm that is basically it about the situation

Nothing you can do about it... Thats the law of police state we live in. Your options:

a: You can move it into your back yard and they can not do anything to you
b: You can get plates and register it, and let it sit as long as you want
c: You can get rid of the car

Those are your only options unfortunatley.

I've heard that before. I even think my town has a law like that. That is why my 99 is covered. They can get a warrant if they want to go through all that trouble.

Do you have a garage to put it in, or can you put it in the back yard?

Yeah, broh, it's happened to me a few times. I currently have 3 non running vehicles on my property, and I'm surprised the man hasn't been back to hassle me. I believe in my town you are only allowed to have 1 non-running vehicle on your property.
Wish I had better news to give...

One way to get around this... put a For Sale sign on it... they cant hassle you if you are "trying" to sell it... (the whole point is to NOT sell it)

well the car is at the BACK of my driveway, like another foot it is in the back yard. it hasnt been on the street since end of Oct. Basically you really need to go on my property to see the car doesnt have plates on it. Well my dad is giving my **** about putting it in the garage. Well dont you need insurance to get it registered and have plates?? Because i truely dont want to pay insurance on it if it isnt drivable yet.

They did that by my parents where I keep my car, I got a trailer for it and they dont bother me anymore because the trailer is registered. I just leave it on the trailer. Thats if you have room or money for one. Just a thought. Good Luck

yeah i hate those people who have to be nosey and sob's about it.

when my car didnt have a title i always kept it under a tarp, my neighbors dont care tho, im one of the 'originals' on my block so they dont mess with me, and ditto for them i dont care how much noise or **** they do lol

i've heard of stuff like that happening, i dunno what to tell you other than ask around and see if someone you know has a garage you can keep it in, rent a storage space or try the back yard thing.. i dunno what i'd do if i actually had a problem with keeping stuff around. a few people have seen my families 'collection' of cars, running or not, we'd be up sh*ts creek if we didnt own a lot of property.

Actually what I was thinking about doing is, putting it on cinder blocks, so they know that the car isnt drivable and put it under a car cover. Well I am going to find out what i need to know by going to the DMV, and the borough. get all the information about it and take a plan of action from there. Any other ideas would be awesome.

i think the problem in a lot of towns is having not just an unregistered vehicle, but an uninsured one, since you have to have insurance to register. im not sure if it matters if its drivable or not.. having an uninsured vehicle on your property is a liability some how, since its not covered under homeowners insurance if something happens with it while its there. (i think)

also, a lot of towns have some kind of law that you have to keep your property 'maintained' and like pleasing to the eye or some ********* like that.. similar to if you let your lawn grow out of control and it covers the house and makes your block look like hell you can get a summons.

heres an idea.. put a privacy fence up all around your yard so they cant see ANYTHING.. then make them wonder what the hell you're doing back there.

Fence is out of the question LOL. Unfortunately the property is too big to put a fence around it, we got an estimate for it and it was like 3 or 4 thousand lol and that is at discount price, since my cousin owns his own fence company.

yea i Understand the eyesore part but the car isnt even close to being an eye sore. I mean it isnt on the front lawn in a thousand different pieces making the grass turn yellow and stuff lol What i dont understand that Nj has the highest property taxes in the country and you cant even keep it the way you want it LOL.

Well like i said the state didnt me a problem, neither did my insurance company. I let them both know that the car wasnt drivable and wasnt going to be on the road for a while. Well if i am going to have a hard time on Mon, i am getting a lawyer.

Toss an old set tags on it...thats what I used to do, and move it around every once in a while.

Yeah, that cement block idea stinks. And proves their point. The law already assumes an unregistered car doesn't run. Put it in the back yard under a cover. And don't put incorrect plates on it. They already know about you, so they will likely check up on you. Don't add the the list of broken laws.

It is not likely a 'prick cop', since they really don't look into zoining issues, at least pro-actively. They have better things to do. Although they could alert the power that be of a potential issue. Unless it was actually in the street, then they will proactively issue tickets. But a zoing guy can. The kid down the street got crap when a town inspector was across the street inspecting a new pool. He saw the car and 'did his job'.

Someone called, that is usually how these things happen. Towns need to have these laws to prevent knuckleheads from running junkyards and wrecking local property values (as a property owner, I appreciate this). But if someone calls, they have to go look into it. IMO, the law should state 1 car, not none.

But your deal is now 'in the system'. You may need to register & insure it. You can try killing the insurance afterwards, but the ins co. most likely will make you submit proof of new insurance or that you turned the plates into the state. That might be state law to try to prevent uninsured cars. I also think by law they have to report when they belive a driver has no insurance (such as cncelled policies due to failure to pay). I'd still try to put it in the back out of sight from the street - with a decent looking cover.

That is why my parts car is covered below the plates with a car cover (not a blue tarp or something). It is not an eyesore and they do not know if it has plates. I don't want to invite trouble. And no one can walk on my property and check it w/o a warrant. Plus I have a mental list of every unregistered car in my neighborhood. I'll sue the town for discrimination if I get a ticket and no one else does! :)

This basically happened to us too because of our crappy next door neighbor. On several occaisions. Actually, my dad was doing some yard renovations, and he's a licensed contractor, so he's allowed to do this, and he owns his own 12 ton backhoe which he was going to use for digging up some bushes. Anyway, the neighbor complained that the backhoe was at the back end of our driveway, so the township was sent over.

They inspected our backyard (while my mom was in the shower at the time and had NO idea they were out there) By the time they rang the doorbell to give us the citation my mom was out, they told her that the backhoe had to be moved off of the property (even though it's has registration) AND that the fiero in our backyard on the grass needed to be moved onto concrete. They said no cars are allowed on the grass, they have to be on pavement. WTF?

Anyway, we moved the backhoe back to our storage area, and the fiero got squeezed up onto the patio inches away from mine so that we could fit those two cars along with my moms. Pain in the ass. And you know what? The township never showed up after that to check, even though they said they would.

Try moving your car onto some wooden planks onto the grass and cover it. They shouldn't bother you. If they do, they'll probably tell you it needs to be on pavement or something. I don't know what to tell you after that point, unless you can get a hold of some transit tags to slap on your car. (they don't require registration or insurance) If they do this anymore though, you might have the option of filing harassment charges against your neighbor. if it gets that far.

I'm pretty sure that North Haledon has some sort of City Beautification Law, so thats where they can get you. But I think if it's out of sight and covered you should be ok. Call up your municipality to see what you can do hopefully they can give you some options.

But if all else fails I think the "For Sale" sign should do the trick...

As a master of how to get back at the neighbors. I know in Manville several years back my parents neighbors called about a car that was flood damaged in the driveway. I asked a friend who was a cop and a car guy. The answer was put it on a legaly registered car trailer and park the trailer where you want. The car is then on a legal trailer and not on any part of the town or street. It still may work today and really drive your neighbor nuts.:lol:
