registration

Ok so I have a little dilema. About a week ago i was pulled over in Montclair and the cop told me my car was unregistered. Luckily i have a family member badge and he didnt' impound my car, but he told me to go home and not drive anymore.

SO, what do i have to bring with me to the DMV to get a new registration. The website says I need to bring my title, but it's financed the bank has the title. I need to bring the odometer reading, proof of insurance a check of course.

Has anyone else had to register a car without purchasing it at a dealer or something. I don't want to go there and have them tell me I need something and have to go all the way home and then go stand in line again.

Thanks.

there are a few forms you are going to need to register the car and i believe they have the information about what documentation you have to bring with you. the counter person at the DMV wil be ableto tell you exactly what is required when you pick up the forms.
thee is the registration form, statement of mileage, and something else that i am forgetting at the moment.

a bill of sale/recipt of some type from the person you bought the car from is also a good idea. make sure it has both your and their full name, make model year of the car, vin number, odo reading, and selling price. that shoudl cover all the bases and any questions they may have for you

YOu need a certain number of points of ID, plus the old reg, and maybe the title (the leasing company will send you a certified copy of the title for registration purposes).

Look on the MVC site for all the requirements.

yeah the MVC website has a listing of everything required...theyll ask you for your license about 5 times in the process too

don't get pulled over fool

gene make sure you do have the right number of points of ID when you go. i saw 4 people standing in a line of 15 of us get sent away because of that.

the points of id is ONLY for a drivers license. He needs the reg, insurance, and bank book, or a faxed copy of the title from the lein holder.

this is directly off the website. Says nothing about I.D. points. but I have a gun permit which when I went for a new picture license was like 4 points. I also now have a picture I.D. license. What else do they accept as I.D. points???

How to Register
To register your vehicle, visit your local MVC Agency and provide the following:

The vehicle title.
Proof of insurance.
Proof of your Social Security number or exemption.
The vehicle's odometer reading.
Your current driver license number.
Complete an application for registration.
Pay the required registration fee.

Cool, right from the horse's mouth.

I'd still bring ID anyway, in case they have a new person working the front desk. Like it was said above, folks get sent away all th time. Dont wait in line for an hour and not have something you thought you didn't need.
