My Little Ole LT1 took a C5, Kill Story

So this was my saturday night, I was debating posting this for a while cause I didn't want to get railed for "street racing" but I figure some people might enjoy it so I'll take the abuse.

Saturday night I got out of work late and was heading up to a party in Montville. For those of you that know, when you continue down 46 past willowbrook mall it becomes a traffic lighted 46. So I was sitting at one of the traffic lights at about midnight and the roads were absolutely dead. As I am sitting at the red light a black C5 roles up next to me with the this I would say late 30's rich guy drinving it, hair slicked back and all(one of those...). So he roles down his window and says "sounds nice" I say thank you and rev it a little then he says "Its still not a vette though, I'll still kick your ass" so I just looked at him and smiled and said lets find out. He had reved it so I knew it was bone stock so I figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. Traffic light turns green we both take off and he pulls a little less than a car on me cause I spun(as usual...) but I reeled him in to my surprise and we were even by 60 or 70 we kept going and I slowly somehow continued to pull on him when we shut down at about 120ish I was about a car a head of him.

I truly couldn't stop smiling and laughing cause I couldn't believe it. I slowed down to about 40 so he would come next to me and talk but he wouldn't then he turned off.

I was pretty surprised I took him, but I truly don't think the guy could drive, and I know it was an m6 cause I saw him churp second and heard him slam gears. So I think that car just needed a driver mod cause I think that car should take me.

It was still amazing to beat this guy cause he thought he was hot **** cause he just spent like 40 or 50 grand on his vette and my 6 g camaro just beat him lol.

Thought I'd share that with you :)

my mods are pacesetter lt's, ory, slp loudmouth catback, egr!, air!, a/c!, moroso cai, 160 t-stat, tb airfoil, ngk tr55ix plugs, msd 8.5 wires, spohn sfc, spohn stb, pcm4less tune and pro 5.0 shifter.

it was a c5 so I geuss it could have been anywhere from a 97 to a 05, looked like a 2000 somethign vette though.

Mike 02-14-2007 06:52 PM

eh just wonderin if you could tell the difference by body style or wheels etc...and this cold out an auto coulda chirped 2nd.......

your mods id say your a mid-high 13 on a normal day, which puts you right with early c5 cars.....i dont think it was that much of a fluke.

I dunno bout your times, but my car was keeping with my buddies 12.7x Mustang on Headers, Catback, Tune, Gears, LPE Cai, SFCs, and Drag Shocks. Ontop of that its an A4 car

ive got the same mods plus 4.10s and i pulled on an 04 vette at the track...and go 12.8s so you're probably around a 13 flat if you nail the gears...not unusual at all

Good kill!

i think gears in an a4 car may do more than intake/exhaust in a stick car....the other mods dont really do anything

98tadriver 02-14-2007 09:26 PM

FWIW, i picked up 3 tenths with my LTs & ory

and then 2 tenths more with my 4.11 gears

IROCZBeast 02-15-2007 05:31 AM

thanks for the compliments everyone.

I still haven't ran my car as it is so I couldn't tell you want it runs. I'm going to take a trip to the track as soon as I can once it opens.

I want to do 4:10's but with just street tires I know they'll probably hurt me more than they'll help me, but I plan on doing them eventually.

Next mods I was thinking about were pulleys, msd opti cap and rotor and coil, and possibly a csr electric water pump, I'm debating the water pump cause my car will still be a daily driver till about june or july and I'm not sure how long it will last I don't want to burn it up.

i cut 1.99 sixty foot times on bald street radials and 4.10s...and 1.82 sixty foot times on bald 3 year old bfg drag radials.

underdrive pulleys are a waste of money, as is the msd cap/rotor and coil...if your opti is fine as is just leave it all alone, there's nothing to be gained by changing that **** out.

water pump is a great idea since you typically will see 10-15rwhp gains on the dyno. you can wire up a "warning light" to alert you if the pump fails so you don't overheat the engine, but most electric pumps go at least a year on daily drivers

Savage_Messiah 02-15-2007 08:11 AM

Mike 02-15-2007 08:15 AM

ooo

i picked up over half a second going from my 3.73'd 10 bolt to my 4.10'd 12 bolt only other mod being tq arm and puting on a more restrictive ypipe back

I'm just curious which light you were at that you had enough room to get up to 120 safely. I drive around that area all the time the roads are riddled with pot holes and the lights are maybe 1/4 mile apart so either you caught multiple green lights in a row or I don't know where you were with that much room.

nice kill! Musta felt great beating one of "those" guys

easiest way to describe it is when you get off route 80 to montville and you go towards 46, that traffic light right there. There is a fast food joint right on the corner by the light, I think its a wendys or mcdonalds or something.
