people who've parted out an lt1 car...

Im gonna part the TA out but i have no clue where to start...
Should i sell engine complete or do i take off the heads/intake/etc. and sell it as a shortblock?
Should i sell the T56 with or without the clutch stuff?
Should my less than 1k mile opti and WP go with the engine?
Do accesories go with the longblock?
And finally, how much should i ask for this stuff?, ive never parted a car out or bought something used, except for my shifter (should that go with the trans or should i throw the stocker back on?)
im just lost on this, any help would be appreciated, useless posts will be asked to be removed

NJSPEEDER 02-23-2007 09:47 PM

i would suggest talking to paul (SmokingSS) about this as he is our resident car killer......errrr.... i mean this is his area of expertise. :p

Sell the T56 with all of the clutch stuff, bellhousing, and flywheel. Guys will try to snap it up for retrofit applications if it's all complete.

Hey now...who here would dare to make useless posts?

Anywho, my 2 cents:

If the engine is in good shape and the mileage isn't too severe, you may find it easest to sell it as a complete long block. There may be people looking for a running engine to replace a engine that they blew up or are having other problems with.
I also agree w/ selling the trans with all of the clutch stuff, bellhousing, and flywheel. The T-56s are extremely hot items all the way across the boards.
And if you decide to sell the accessories separately I would be interested in the power steering pump, hoses, and reservoir.

NJSPEEDER 02-24-2007 12:01 AM

i am gonna move this over to the classifieds. i think it will get more appropriate responses there.

JL8Jeff 02-24-2007 04:13 PM

FWIW, LT1 heads will bring around $200 a complete set at the most unless they are professionally ported. Selling the trans is probably a 50/50 option of including the clutch and hydraulics since a lot of retro fit guys will not want the hydraulics if they keep their mechanical clutch setup. And the 93 T56 isn't as strong as the 94 on up so don't expect the same amount of $$. Sell the car to Paul and he'll take care of the parting out.

actually jeff you should know better...the m29 was rated at 450 lb/tq as opposed to the 94+ 400 :p...plus it has better 1-3 ratios :)

Actually, you have the torque rating backwards. The 93 T56 was 400 lb/ft vs the 450 for the 94 on up. But my 93 Pace Car was a 700R4 (4L60) automatic as they all were.

Squirrel 02-28-2007 10:28 PM

wheels and tires spoken for

Squirrel 03-01-2007 10:50 PM

im not gonna start parting the car out for 2 weeks, dont bother PM'ing for at least a week...
edit: paul, ok you can send me that PM now :p

Squirrel 03-04-2007 12:01 AM

Just an update:
I will begin taking the car apart next week starting saturday the 10th...not sure if the drivetrain will be removed at that time but i will try to do so...but if there is anything specific that you would like, it'll have higher precedence than just randomly taking stuff apart, just PM me with a reasonable offer and you'll get a response within the day, most likely a couple hours...if a PM is not returned within a day or 2 that means i deemed your offer unreasonable and didnt bother to reply:)
edit: higher offer>dibs btw

Squirrel 03-04-2007 12:23 PM

ah...just wanted to mention, reverse pops out every once in a while on the trans, other than that its a champ, nothing but M1 trans fluid for the past 3 years, and shortened pro 5.0 will come with it, or you can have the stocker on there for a ~$130 less price:)

edit: front bumper cover, headlights and assemblies, windshield, hood, and front fenders are not salvageable

Mark B 03-12-2007 09:36 AM

Can you give me some info on the LT1? Year, Milage, condition & price.

Thanks,
Mark B
