Help! Transmission Problem
After a racing incident on the highway my T-56 Transmission seems to have an issue. I was hoping maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Basically when the Tranny goes into 5th and 6th gear the shifter feels like it wants to pull out of gear. It still stays in gear but the shifter comes back a little. When I hit the accelerator the shifter goes back all the way like it should but then immediately comes back a little when I let off of the accelerator. This is my first manual so I am a little unfamiliar with all of the pieces involved in the manual transmission. I am familiar with the basic terms. Also when shifting from 4th to 5th gear and from 5th to 6th gear the gears grind unless I hold the clutch pedal in for a few seconds. Anyones help in this matter would be very much appreciated. :?:
Thanks a ton! |
when you got into the accident did the trasn get jammed into a gear?
the shifter trying to move around is usually a sign of a bent shift fork. |
it could also be the length adjustmant on the rods if they can be moved back and forth -- the crash might have moved or bent one of them -- it sounds like its being sucked into gear as you go foward / and jump 1/2 out as you let off it - hope i have that right what you said -- jz

The Trans Am is just fine and did not get into any accidents, also I do not make this a habit and I am a responsible driver. However the neon would not let off so I figured he deserved to learn a little humility which maybe he learned and then again maybe he didn't. I am sorry if the original post confused anyone. |

How can you verify the presence of a bent shift fork:?: Does the transmission have to come out in order to do this or is there a test that you can do to see if this is the problem? Thanks for the post. 5.7TA |

Aww that sucks OK well I won't waste any more of you guys's time thanks for the help. I am not sure how to drop the tranny so if someone in the Mount Laurel area has some spare time or even just some knowledge to pass along it would definitely help out. Otherwise I must waste money on a dealer. If anyone knows a reputable mechanic who could fix it let me know as well.

Thanks a ton for the offer. I will send you a PM to get more information.
