What is it about turbo buicks

Why is it that turbo buick cars have no problems with modifications and the right suspensions runing 10's and faster? But when a chevy v6 gets a cam and heads and a custom turbo kit, it doesnt go nearly as fast? Whats different about the buick verses chevys v6?

Im sorry if this is in the wrong place

1. its called aftermarket support, look into it
2. TB's were set up for boost from the factory, a regular n/a v6 was not...turbo buicks can run upwards of 20 pounds of boost on the stock motor if set up correctly, where as an N/a block turned boosted can run say 6-8...

because azz hats cant build em right!

Savage_Messiah 03-03-2007 04:54 PM

the gn / tta 3800 engine has absolutely nothing similar to a series II 3800 (95.5 - 02 f-bodies) except for the displacement. Their heads and intakes are designed much better

BigAls87Z28 03-03-2007 04:58 PM

What kind of Chevy V6? Only Chevy V6 I can think of are the 60* 2.8/3.1/3.4/3.5/3.9 OHV ones, and the 4.3 V6.
The 3.8 is a 90* V6 and the engines were built to handle the boost. Now, if you compare the TTA to the GN, equally modded, then there is a difference.

Savage_Messiah 03-03-2007 05:00 PM

Al, read my post again.

BigAls87Z28 03-03-2007 05:06 PM

Kasey, I dont care what you have to say at all. The TTA has different heads then the Turbo Buick's, yet is much faster.

WayFast84 03-03-2007 07:08 PM

Where can I find a list of all the buicks that came stock with turbo's? Im looking into something for about a year or two from now.

trashman01 03-03-2007 08:29 PM

pretty much the 84? -87/88 ttype or regal. also the 89tta

Which still has no relevance to what he was saying.

DieselKickYoAss4Sure 03-04-2007 02:04 AM

don't forget lower compression!

maroman88 03-04-2007 02:12 AM

good luck finding a cheap turbo buick, prices are goin up on all of em, even the T-Type regals are gettin up there

bubba428 03-04-2007 04:49 AM

my old man had a 87 riviara T-Type that thing got it...the difference is...chevy V-6s fire differently than buick odd fire/even fire wikipedia acualy has this charted out...the buick engine just likes boost better...the 3.4 ehhhh not so much theres thing you can do to make it but not really...not to mention the chevy V-6 aftermarket is nill...i've tried the easy way...there is none

As having ridden in both (with the same mods) I have to agree.
Plus the TType doesnt have the aerodynamics of a Cracker Box

V 03-04-2007 07:55 AM

dont forget the syclone and typhoons, not buicks, but definately some pretty nasty little tubro 4.3s

JSPERFORMANCE 03-04-2007 09:39 AM

what is nasty about a 14 second awd turbo? Plus they are a real pain to work on.

ok well i dont mean "nasty" bone stock, ive seen more than enough with serious work done that moved. but i admit i never worked on one so i dont know what thats like. and dont get me wrong, im not sayign they are better than the buicks just saying gm had other stuff which i think is worth mentioning.

Because I dont know the last time (until the TBSS) that ive seen a 14 sec SUV...and like anything new isnt a pain to work on.

WayFast84 03-04-2007 10:18 AM

If the buick was fired differently why cant the chevy v6's have the same firing order with a different cam, like the 3-7(i think thats it) swap cam sorts of thing

JSPERFORMANCE 03-04-2007 10:59 AM

If they were seroius about making something new they probably wouldnt have been such a pos. Instead they plopped a tiny water to air intercooled turbo kit on a stock 4.3 (yes its the same engine) a locked out transfer case and the same crappy differentials ooo but they have a locker in the front. At least the turbo buicks were totally engineered to be a performance car. Low compression, turbo, intercooler, sfi, and a strong enough drivetrain to handle the power.
If you cant tell I work on my fair share of both of these cars.

Amen. The turbo 4.3's aren't even in the same league as the Buick 3.8's

DieselKickYoAss4Sure 03-04-2007 12:04 PM

my buddy had an 11 sec typhoon with different turbo and injectors ported intake! nothing else!

98tadriver 03-04-2007 12:13 PM

screw it, get a K20 boosted civic with VTTAKK yo, that will beat all
