Im D.E.P. ...

Saturday I take my physical and I take the main test to get in. I will probably be heading out to boot in January. That'll give me ample time to finish school and have my associates in CRJ. I'm either doing Aircraft mech, or something to do with that or MP. My recruiter says he can get me in MP no problem. I'm not sure weather I'm gunna do reserves or active. I gave myself till Thursday to decide.

In active duty I will be in for atleast 4 yrs. and I could be out. Reserves is atleast 6 yrs. but only a few times a mnth.

MP, huh? Plus a CJ degree? I'm guessing you're looking for a career in law enforcement when you're done? May want to go reserves so that you can take police entrance exams when they become available. Just my thought on the subject.

whatever you choose, thanks.

Alreadfy ahead of you man. The training I will recive from the Marines will make me a full flegded MP. I will be aloud to carry and all that. I was told from the recruiter that It will put me in the top 10% on the list plus I could just walk into any police department and ask for a job and I will most likely get it.

they are revamping the scoring on the civil service tests, vetran status will be worth points that will be added to your score and that score will put you in the list wherever it gets you.... no longer will vets status get you a job over people that scored 10 or more points higher

Recruiters really will say just about anything, huh? It's not quite THAT easy. I hadn't heard about the veteran's status being affected in the Civil Service Exam as posted above, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

Don't get me wrong; the Marine Corps is definitely a great way to get your foot into the door of law enforcement. That and your college degree is enough to qualify for the NJSP. Police departments are leaning towards candidates who are college educated. One of the best moves you can make is to save up some scratch and put yourself through the police academy (Also known as "Alternate Route"). Most of the recruits who go through the Alternate Route program get picked up by departments before they graduate.

I live in bergen county out police academy doesnt have the "alternate route" yet. We might have it by 2009 my proffesor told me who works at the academy.

Better check into what the MPs are doing over in Iraq and Afghanistan first, before signing on the dotted line.

Whatever your choice, thanks for signing up despite all the stuff going down.

Yeah, I seemed to have forgotten the Thank You part as well. Takes balls to sign up right now.

As for alternate route, Essex County, Ocean County and Somerset County all have it. How bad do you want it?

I was going to be an MP, but i changed my mine and went with being a Tactical Data Network Specialist...computer geek. MPs just stand around checking IDs all day, hassling Marines, and only if your out in the desert and assigned to grunt unit to watch prisoners are you going to do anything fun. My recruiter also told me that it wouldn't help me becoming a cop becuz the laws are totally different. As an MP you can just crack a Marine over the head when he's being unruly, try that as a regular cop with a civie and see how it works. Whatever you want to do hardcharger its goin to be your career.
