Tint question

So...

my inspection is running up and I have a couple options. I could go and get an "inspection" for 75 a year OR I could buy some window glass and swap out my windows every year for inspection and then re-swap the tinted windows when I'm done. Anyone switch the actual glass in an fbody before? Is it tricky?

Given this would only really pay for itself if I could go to a state inspection every year with my LT headers. Anyone have any experience with that?

Go to a private garage IMO. Unless the place that tinted your windows would redo for a lesser cost after inspection. I hate the state facilities. The one up by me would fail you for sound, dunno about down near you.

well thats the whole point I'm trying to save money over time. If I buy windows for 50 dollars, and then save 50 dollars every year by being able to go to state inspection ......

don't do it ryan. you'll be sorry. just pay and get your car thru inspection. taking the windows out would create more headaches then it's worth. even if you got it out w/o breaking it you'll risk getting leaks. just not worth it.

NJ is 2 year inspection....where r u paying to get "inspected" at? Either way I would just pay to get it done...

just pay it taking windows out would probably just create headaches like said above.... maybe scratch the tint ect too

just pay the 75, and BTW it's good for 2 years not 1.

Just buy a sticker, don't even bother going through the state, it'll just become a hassle.

they are very strict on tint....people who carry badges don;t even get their private vehicles passed :(.... but my recommendation would be to go to inspection on a nice day put your windows down and pull the breaker. i believe according to title 39 they cannot reject the car if the windows do not operate AS LONG as the vehicle is equipped with operational turn signals.... Good luck

No, the driver's side window must be operational, in case of signal failure. That's one of the reasons that my brother's truck failed originally.

well i have passed several times with BOTH my windows inop., last time i read the statute it stated that IF the signals worked the windows didn;t have to....either way worth a shot

if they want to be real big pita they can ask for a letter on departmental letterhead stating the purpose of the tint

Brando56894 03-12-2007 10:01 PM

i believe taking the window out would be a major PITA. i dont even know how you would get it out since it has that track on the bottom of it

TransAm619 03-12-2007 10:09 PM

anywhere in the central (piscataway) area thatll pass me? im willing to pay the 75.. its just one time some dude wanted 175 and i wasnt gonna shell out all that.. but it might be nice to finally have an inspection ya kno? :)

nothing too bad.. just no front plate, tinted all lights and 5% windows and an 11 inch tint strip on the front.....
