Can this suck up water into your motor since it is in front of you radiator?

I don't have one, but I doubt you would run into any problems, there are hundreds of cars with the cold air induction rolling around.

not worth it if you have a Ram Air or Hawk or SS hood. What you gain in cold air you lose in covering the radiator.

really???? it cover up that much of the radiator? I have the stock SS hood.

Don't even bother then, test showed only .3 mph increase with ram air type hoods.

SLP states a 10 HP gain with their ram air kit. But i dont want to block the radiator and make it less efficient, i also dont want to risk sucking rain into my intake.

So i wont notice a difference? Like i said, i already have the functional stock SS ram air hood.

i think this is also called the "free ram air mod".

Its called salesmanship... why take the risk for so little gain? spend or save the 200 bucks or so on something else.

I don't think it creates that much of a problem with radiator blocking or anything like that. I know a bunch of people with SLP's Flow Pac and they don't report any problems, and their operating temperatures are the same as they are on cars without the kit.

unless they have a true temp gauge how can they tell? LS1 water temp gauge is a 3 position idiot light (cold, norm, overheat) LT1s had the real gauge.

it does increase temps, not to over heat levels but the fan will kick on more during city driving.

I would like to see this test with a SSRA,Slp C.A.i,Fast toys or Whisper kit compared to Ram Air hood's especially comparing it with an SS hood..
I have been using the Austin Performance Super Sucker Ram Air kit for about 2 years now
My car is a Daily Driver in Rain, Snow or Shine and I have had Zero problems with it
And no problem regarding sucking up water in the rain.

And it will out perform an SS hood...
To truely appreciate the Kit you need to drive with Hp software and moniter the I.A.T readings and it proves how much of a difference the kit makes..
From an Idling stand still your Intake Air temps instantly drop the Moment you start moving in your car then the Air temps lower..
I have matched Air temps to the current outdoor Temp and I have gotten colder temps the faster I drove..
Besides lowering the I.A.T. temps you are also increasing the Volume of Air going into the intake which Passes through your Maf.
And it does Not restrict Cooling to the engine or engine bay my engine temps are no different now then they were before I installed the kit.

If you read the Tech articles at Install university it will explain it in much better detail especially compared to an SS hood.

I have a friend who has a 2001 SS we installed the kit and blocked off the hood intake slit under the Lid
And he gained a 10th of second and 1.51 mph in the 1/4 Mile with his car by using the SSRA on a hotter day than his previous runs using just the SS hood.

Damn man, thanks for all the info and the pic. I have been on their website many times, and it was on there that the idea of sucking water into the intake was poasted as a question. It just got me wondering, but you seem to drive your car like i do (rain, sleet, hail, snow) so if your cool, ill be.

The temp increase (if there even was one) wouldn't bother me too much b/c i have an SLP's fan control switch installed which i use alot (esp in the summer). As far as blocking the hood off, i wouldn't end up doin that, i would just have double ram air, lol.

Another friend ordered it a week ago and it arrived at his house in 2 days

The kit comes with a weather stripping seal that has double sided tape to block off the factory intake area..
They recommend blocking the OEM area to create a vacuum or pressurizing effect with the in coming Air..

what is the difference between this one and the one from SLP (besides the price)? Other then it being in 2 pieces? Or is that an advantage...?

ahhh, SLP's is metal and the other one is plastic so it won't heat soak...that is one diff..

and it is longer and sits closer to the front of the bumper...(i kno i just answered my own question) lol

That is the only part that is debatable with this Modification which is to much or not enough and regarding heat soak ect..
Personally I prefer the SSRA kit on my car the one I have is the original Stainless steel version but now he makes it out of Abs plastic.

If you can't afford the full SSRA kit you could always buy the SLP,Fast Toys or Whisper version's
Austin Performance does make the 2nd piece extension that will work with the other Brand kits just in case you want to try it later in the future.

I dont do anything half ass...i always use my whole ass. So if i do it, ill do it the right way and spend the extra $60. lol. :nod:

I wouldn't worry about heat soak much. The air moves through the intake so quickly that it doesn't have time to heat up.

I helped Little G install one on his '02 v6, and (IIRC) he picked up .2-.3 tenths and at least 1.5 mph in the 1/4 mile over the the factory intake location.
