True duals on a 3rd gen
I'm in the process of putting headers and a true dual exhaust on a 87 trans am so far the old exhaust is all gone and the headers are on and I also decided to get rid of my a/c in the process. So tommorow the exhaust will be goin on I'll post pics up soon for anyone whos thought about doin this.
iv seen it done on a few thirdgens before, even tho about 9/10 of them are fake duels (like mine)...
what kind of exhausts are you using? bullets? |
They're similiar to bullets they're 2-12 inch glasspacks mounted where the old single muffler was theres also no cats or AIR system.
watch out when you do the passenger side pipe, my friend bought an 87 t/a and the previous owner made it a true dual, the pipe was so close to the floorboards it started to melt the carpet
Thanks I'll look out for that.
How are you running the pipes? Are you running the driver's side one across (like the y-pipe would have) and then running both in the stock location?

That's exactly how its going to be setup.
Dual 2.5" pipes?

Yeah I have it in now and they run in the same location as stock they're pretty tight and when they get to the drive shaft one runs above the other.
are you trying to do this to make some power or jsut to do it?
ture dual set ups actually make less power and are twice the hassle/cost to install as a properly sized single on a street motor. on a mega cube or very high reving engine it is a different story, because they need the flow volume, but for a streeter, just go with a single if you are looking to build power. |
Haha. Its too late now to go with a single exhaust its already in.I thought it would be cool because no one really has it and it would make more power. It wasnt too hard to install either the hardest thing was putting in the headers.
