setting valve lash questions.

How often does one set valve lash? how hard is it? how long does it take? any special tools required? I heard if you get stud girdles you dont need to set valve lash, true? just for roller? How reliable would daily driving a car with a solid cam be?

if you have a solid cam, you adjust lash quite a bit.

not true --- a stud girdle is a support that ties all of your rockers together so the individual rocker studs don't shake from high rpm harmonics ( springs trying to slinky causes studs to snap off with out a girdle ) with a racing roller for the most part must be used - not a street thing - yea you could bolt it on but it wont do anything for you --

hyd lifters take up small changes that go on in the valve train from wear -

solids need to be re adjusted so as all the starting points for correct valve openings are the same as what the cam company ground the cam on - meaning the intake and or the exhaust track tuning will be out of sink and performance will be down if the adjustment is off -- race cars might adj valves before every race chevy street car with a small solid every few months depends -- jz

the dirt car has a solid, flat tappet cam. we go over the valves every other week regardless of how many/few laps are run. the bigger teh cam, the faster it will beat the setting out of the rockers.

It's also not hard, takes about 15 minutes once you get good at it. Which rockers and lifters do you have?

I dont have my rocker arms picked yet, and I have crane lifters, Its not a big deal I wont be using a solid cam, I get some crazzy thoughts some times, but I have a plan now, sorry for wasting your time!
