OBDI tuning
Anyone in the central area do any OBDI tuning? I have a 91 trans am and I dont really know what I am doing tuning wise. Car runs really rich and I would like it to run a little better. I am just looking for some help pointing me in the right direction, not looking for a handout.

Have you checked out the tuning board over at thirdgen.org?
|
OBD1 is a non-tunable system unfortunately. There are, however, replacement chips that can be used, such as Jet and theres a few others.

you probably have a replacement chip in it to allow for that
|
Bubs, that is what tuning an OBDI is, chips. It is just a different way to the same means as a later flashable one. They just aren't flashable.
|
well most OBD1 systems don't have a chip in the 1st place. but if you read my 1st post you'll see thats EXACTLY what I said. the 1st part is basically saying you can't just plug in and program like a OBD2 system. Then I point out that you can tune through the use of replacement chips. I don't think you understood exactly what I meant.

I actually came from Thirdgen.org originally. The people on the DIY board are sometimes a little arrogant/not friendly/advanced tuners. I have asked questions there before and gotten zero replies for simple questions where I have been confused.
OBDI IS tunable with the proper equipment, which I have, but in the end it does come down to a "chip". There have been a lot of advancements on the GM OBDI stuff if you really get hardcore into it, I have an Autoprom so I can do real time tuning. I was just wondering if anyone here already does it on the 3rd gens. I have asked for personal help on the DIY and got a lot of s*** for it. |
Yeah the Autoprom allows for real time tuning and is a sweet tool for OBD I. There is a guy I deal with local who I don't think would have a problem helping you out but I'd have to check with him first. Shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll forward it along to him. He did leave today for a 2 week vacation in NH however so it's gonna be a bit.

I have the autoprom as that I brought in a full kit from moates. Its nice but does take alot of time wnd reading to learn how to tune. I use tuner pro. I still have a lot to learn. Hey Paul can you see if your guy can give me a hand as well. When I get my 383 in. Im gonna need some help getting an intial tune to get the car running.
