Devils fans.

Rangers get Gomez, we also lost refalski. Both where rookies when the NJD won the cup in 2000.

Im suddenly not looking foward to the next season at the new arena

BonzoHansen 07-02-2007 07:47 AM

It'll probably backfire on the NYR like Holik did.

WayFast84 07-02-2007 07:50 AM

In happy thoughts, hopefully.

But a good happy thought for everyone whos disapointed, is that Scott stevens was inducted into the hall of fame.

its gunna suck without gomez, last season it seemed liek he really started picking it up and playing really really well.

Untamed 07-02-2007 09:11 AM

I tell ya what - I'm a Devils fan, but I think picking up Gomez and Drury is a good move for them. The problem the Rangers have had for the last, oh, 10 years in the inability of the coaching staff to gel all the star veterans they have. The Rangers keep opening the checkbook, but can't coach a fat kid into eating a pie.

This past season the Devils were rebuilding. They called up some rookies and spent the first half of the season trying to get all the new(er) kids into the system, gelling as a team, and trying out a few different line combos and styles. The second half of the season, the team decided they had to get into the playoffs to at least appease the fans, so made and effort - what they continued to lack though were the basics: crisp passes, playing position, keeping the puck out of their end of the zone.

This coming season, without Gomez or Refalski, will be felt (in a bad way) however NJ has always had a good farm organization. They whip and beat their rookies in Albany, then bring them down to Jersey when someone is injured. But by doing that, the 18-20 yr old kids who are suddenly in their first NHL game, can mostly handle it. Gomez and Refalski will be replaced, with only a minor loss in performance.

Hopefully they spend this next season gelling the team and preparing them for a cup run in another one or two years. It probably wont happen this year because they are still rebuilding - every team has to go through it. The Rangers simply buy in the talent, whereas the Devils spend less money and farm it. Cup runs come in cycles, so we have to be patient.

Looking forward to seeing #4 Jersey hanging from the rafters of the new arena, with the Hall of Fame words on it. :)

:stupid: i dont think anyone could have said that more perfectly lol

WTF I DONT WANT GOMEZ :evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil: BUT WE GOT DRURY :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Frosty 07-02-2007 09:47 PM

Why wouldn't you want Gomez?

Oh yeah, the Rangers can keep signing players, it won't matter. They'll find a way to lose. :)

What I wouldn't give to see that pussy Jagr tear up his knee to end his career. :D

Now hopefully the Flyers will gel with all of their new acquisitions.

LS1Hawk 07-03-2007 06:32 AM

This is a great deal for NYR. We got a 27-year-old center w/ a few cups under his belt, and a guy that anywhere he goes he wins. They also were able to hang on to their home grown talent, i.e. Callahan, Prucha, Girardi. They now have a nice mix of veterans and young skaters. Kinda sucks loosing Nylander, but what can you do.

alamantia 07-03-2007 06:56 AM

Islanders lost blake and smith... hahahah

Drury was coming to NYR since 2006, thats old news, as for Gomez... well hopefully we trade him for Souray

A. at least we showed up to our second round playoff contest

B. that a ****** thing to say, i wouldnt want to see anyone do that except for Chris Simon

C. i dont want Gomez because everytime the rangers get a player from a rival team they end up sucking (Maclean, Lindros, Holik )
plus id rather have Nylander considering hes in his prime and will probably continue to get better. i cant believe they let him go. :-x:-x:-x

Rangers signed Prucha today, another 20 goal scorer, what did the devils sign becides a contract to play in Newark, and thats just one step to Kansas City. Rangers are gearing up to go on a tear, Devils are looking to a slow painful demise of a once powerful team, all teams go through cycles tho.

and we got Weekes

alamantia 07-05-2007 01:28 PM

One of our few liabilities

slasherbarb 07-05-2007 01:43 PM

the Devils have done this offseason what they do every off-season: fill needs. They signed Zubrus who is a physical forward coming off a career year. And they signed Rachunek who is a very solid defenseman. The Devils rarely ever sign the "big" name players, and frankly, they never needed to. They are coming off a solid season where they lost to a better team. They still have a solid core with Elias, Parise, Gionta. Zajac is coming off a pretty good rookie year, so is Oduya and Greene. Plus, the Devils are gonna have the best and newest arena in hockey. I am actually pretty excited for the upcoming season.

PS- Weekes has always owned the Devils. Nice to have him on our side  Plus he's only playing at most ten times next year...so no big worry...

shane27 07-05-2007 02:12 PM

devs dont have a coach yet tho

band77one 07-05-2007 02:33 PM

since im in south jersey..im a huge flyers fan....all i got to say is Daniel Briere, and Kimo Timmonen. not to mention Scott Hartnell, Scottie Upshall, Jason Smith and Jeffrey Lupul. philly is back on track. so NYR and NJD better watch out!

alamantia 07-05-2007 02:37 PM

I think fiedorek should watch out... for a right hook.

Biron is a weak link? Right. Biron played very well behind a horrendous Flyers D last year.

You better hope and pray and your starter doesn't go down with an injury ;) Who is the back up in Ranger-land anyway?

hes a weak link compared to Lundqvist or Brodeur. and our backup Valiquette or Montoya possibly next year

Frosty 07-05-2007 05:30 PM

Compared to Brodeur yes, compared to Lund? Don't think so. Don't forget Biron was a solid starter before Ryan Miller got hot and stole the starting job.
