LT1 bolt on record????
i was looking into the worl dof LT1's in more detail recently and i was wondering what experience you guys have with bolt on mods. what works,?what doesn't? what are good starting points?
the record, from what i can find, is standing at 11.8 @ 114 mph, that doesn't seem like a terribly hard goal to hit for someone who is motivated and has some time to do a little development work. i don't even know what an average 4.1 gen weighs, anybody care to clue me in? |
11.8 is the record...shon herron holds it. My vert full weight with no jack and spare was something near 3600lbs iirc
edit: the record is more than attainable, seeing as how i went 12.700 @ 107.x at that weight with almost stock suspension, a generic mail-order tune, mechanical water pump, on randys 3 yr old drag radials edit #2: i was also running stock stamped steel rockers plus the motor/valvesprings had 100k miles on em |
When the term "bolt on" is used are you talking about rebuilt motor as well? I seen the NHRA "stockers" go lower then 11.8. Think that was a 96 Z28, and ProjectZ28 went 11.9 on a street driver with just a 305 cam.
Just using stock internals you could probably get to around 325HP if you get creative. 1.7 rockers, Impalla head gaskets. There are allot of ways to cut weight out of the car as well. Then you just need the right tire/gear |
for an N/A bolt on car, i see most people apply the rule of only changing parts that no oil hits. so basically, intake manifold, head gaskets, and rockers would be out.
i sawa little info about herron's car. he has it listed at 3100lbs. i think that would be an easy number to hit. his car is also an M6, if someone was to go after the record with an auto they would be at a huge advantage off the line i would think. stick will trap a touch higher, but through the first half of the track an auto with a shift kit and the right stall would be way quicker. |

his sig on LS1Tech lists it as a M6, 1.57 short time with a stick car is impressive.
he trapped at 114mph, doing the math for a 3100lbs car it would mean he is putting around 335ish to the wheels. not too bad |
intake manifolds are permitted per ls1techs description of the rules.....

Why strip out wieght when you could just get a nice H/C combo and not have to worry about people calling your car a tin can.:-?

It would just take someone who is very familiar w/ drag racing and weight redux knowledge etc.

you don't have to make a car a tin can to make it weigh less. my 91 RS weighed 3280 with 3/4 tank of gas and my fat butt in it, and every power feature on teh car was still intact and fundtional and the interior was all there except for the rear seats.
you can also drop a few hundred lbs from a car for free, compare that to the thousands that a good H/C set up costs. |

there are certainthing i keep to myself about my methods. i will say that i believe in full appearing interiors. the choice of how many or how few ceature comforts remain intact is up to the car owner. if you feel like getting that fireturd of doom down to weight shoot me a PM or something and we can get together to make a game plan. |
should have bought my 84....3185 with me and a 1/4 tank, and that is the way it rolled off the factory floor!
