Fixed the AMX...

One of the weirdest electrical probs I've ever seen...AMC uses a Ford style fender mounted starter solenoid, and it seems mine was shorted out, so the electrical circuit was basically broken because there was no grounding effect happening. Only took 17 beers and a couple hours to figure out. My little brother and a 35 year old AMC tech manual FTW!!! Only thing now is I'm too drunk to wanna do any further work on the car. Oh well, time for a Wendy's triple and a few more beers. Plus I have half a Big Nig w/ some Wodka mixed in...

glad you got it figured out. saw a sweet Javelin the other day too, thought of you, and also thought of how much it looks like a 73ish mach 1

Yeah, ya gotta be a combo mechanic to work on AMCs. Speaking of how the 71-74 Javs resemble the 71-73 Mustangs, well, a buddy of mine [TA Dan's father] has a 71 Boss 351, and one day we had 'em side by side at another buddy's shop. They do look a lot alike, and both of them have an almost identicle body line that runs along the roof edge, around the rear side windows, and across the top of the door and fender. Looks like the same stamping coulda been used...

Cool, ya found the gremlin. I just got done putting the new throwout bearing in and bolted the trans back up. I can now see what happened last year when I did the clutch job and how the TO bearing popped out of place and jumped the fingers of the clutch fork.

I'd REALLY like to find a Gremlin. I'd paint it red and put fat tires on it.
I used to have a Cavalier that ate TO bearings for some reason. And the noise a bad TO bearing makes is one of the worst sounds on earth.
Good luck gittin' 'er back together.

BOB, how dare you sully the AMC by comparing it to a F@#ked Over Rebuilt Dodge Crustang. Everyone knows the AMC is superior.

I can't be a hater. AMC actually modeled their 1970 and up front suspensions after Ford's suspension design, and as I stated they used a Ford style starting system. And come on, what reason would anyone have for hating a Boss 351?

Nah, man, that is set for the AMX. Once it is done in about 8 gazillion years. :-?
