WTF! WHY IS IT GREY?!?!?!

TELL ME WHAT IM DOING WRONG..PLEASE.

WayFast84 08-29-2007 09:58 PM

More coats, then a clear, It wont be BLACK but it gets darker every coat.

Slo86Bird 08-29-2007 10:00 PM

thats 5 coats...i thought the same thing but it keeps drying grey lol

WayFast84 08-29-2007 10:11 PM

is it dull or glossy?

Slo86Bird 08-29-2007 11:13 PM

dull

WayFast84 08-29-2007 11:34 PM

clear it, it might make it look blacker. but make sure its GLOSS and not anything else.

Blackbirdws6 08-29-2007 11:59 PM

That is a can of nite shades right? That does look really gray. Mine came out dull when I painted mine but they were black. I would give a few coats a clear a shot to see if it turns black....its still weird though. I have plenty of the stuff left since I only wanted to paint my rear markers. Let me know.

Also 5 coats is a lot. I did 3 and mine are pretty dark. The clear really made them pop. I wetsanded with 2000 grit to finish them off.

1st off, they sell smoked clear corners now, not black, but they look really nice
2nd, those are the easiest lights to remove from a 3rd gen, each has 2 little clips, why did u bother taping all that off and still prob got overspray on the car.
3rd, i did 3 coats on my taillights and one coat of clear and they are pitch mother f-in black and shiney

Slo86Bird 08-30-2007 12:16 AM

i have 2 cans of vht nightshade. i just didnt feel like takin them out lol...i kept puttin more n more coats figuring it might turn them black but my theory was wrong..luckily i have extra marker lights. the clear i used turned out horrible and its cloudy and bubbly cuz its a crappy clear so imma just put the extra markers in n not worry bout the nightshading lol.

Jared1970Chevelle 08-30-2007 12:39 AM

Slo86Bird 08-30-2007 10:48 AM

TheBandit 08-30-2007 02:33 PM

left is obviously untouched....middle is nightshaded and right is nighted and cleared......

drmrman 09-02-2007 08:47 AM

OK OK OK!

Is it a fresh bottle? Because I do this for a lot of people and I know when I get past about 2/3's of a bottle it starts shooting a white'ish grey and after it dries, it cracks a little...

Try really shaking up a new can and see if that doesnt help! I have had GREAT turnouts on a lot of peoples cars including my own with this stuff!

ever try wet sanding in between coats?

Slo86Bird 09-02-2007 07:20 PM

i did not try that. it was a brand new can when i started and it came out like that and i sprayed the taillight lens when it was almost empty..i finished the can on the taillight lens.

WayFast84 09-02-2007 07:26 PM

I think you suck at this... that tail light looks worse with clear then just night shade

wow that was some great help you gave him. if everyone told you how much you suck at everything you do you wouldnt be on this site any more....

Why not try wet sanding and starting over with a new can?

Slo86Bird 09-02-2007 09:11 PM

What are you doing for surface prep?

GP99GT 09-05-2007 07:00 PM

when i did the tails on my GP, which had wax on them and everything....all i did was wash them real good, scuff them a bit with like 1500 grit, wash them again, and start spraying....came out awesome
