GREAT DAY AT RACEWAY PARK

Went to Raceway Park(Pontiac Day)with my 22 year old son Darren. I had my Formula and my son used my 1995 Grand Am V/6 GT. I entered the Show and Go, and my son Darren just went for the Racing(his 1st time out). Our first runs were 14.3 @ 96 mph for the Formula and 16.6 at 83 mph for the Grand Am GT. My times were off by about 2 tenths and a couple mph due to an adjustment on my fuel pressure regulator(went down on pressure to see if it changed anything, and it did). My son was disappointed in his times, but I told him that he was going to be the car to beat due to the fact in Bracket racing, everybody had to catch him. There were 25 Pontiacs in our class and 90% were new style GTO's. I told him he would be on the brakes(win or lose)at the finish, in order NOT to break out. Sure enough(after 4 runs) the Formula and the Grand Am made it to the semi-finals, Other cars either broke out, foul started or dialed in wrong or fell asleep at the lite. The BUMMER was that due to the LADDER system, he and I were paired up. I ran a .081 lite, and my son ran a .121 lite. On my dial in of 14.25, I ran a 14.21, but my son ran a 16.56 on a 16.58 dial, so on a double break out, he won by 2 onehundreds. Fast forward to the Finals, he faces a GTO running 11.99. Told him just back off a hair on his launch so he wouldn't Red lite, but he Red lites(nerves), and gives it to the GTO. He felt really bad, but I was very proud of him for getting that far. He picked up $50.00 and a nice runner up trophy. As for the old man here, I really like the fact that I can still kick a**, and almost made it a father/son final. As for the SHOW, I took a 1st place in 3rd Gen modified. Weather was fantastic, and it felt great to bond with my son, and teach him some Drag Racing lessons. :helmet:

does indeed sound like a great day and congrats to you and your son on the trophies. Some of the best times I had/have with my dad were out at the track. My dad has since hit some rough times but hopefully we will be able to get back to the track sometime. One of the best times I had was racing his 2000 c5 coupe 6-speed at the track with him. We ran it as two drivers and he could launch the car better but I would get it down the track faster and a bit quicker. Great times.

Cool Ed. It was nice to see you and meet your son. Sorry we didnt have more time to chat. Between cleaning the cars and you racing we were just too busy.

I did not realize that was your GrandAm. I should have...it was nice and clean :)
