one more reason i should be the king of destruction, (or something along those lines)
so i sent out my spare T56 to a good friend of mine in ohio to get it rebuilt last week. It ate crap a while back and it was sitting here. i figured it would need your basic rebuild. why did i even get my hopes up? he took it apart yesterday and sent me this email
hey i got transmission apart!!!! i have the parts list... 3-4 fork steel 3-4 synchronizer 3rd gear input shaft all blocker rings for 1st-4th gears 1-2 synchronizer billet struts for 3-4 synchronizer 1-2 fork 2nd gear the fork and synchronizer broke theres some chipped teeth on the countershaft. It may not hurt to get one. the input shaft has lots of teeth broken off where the metal got mashed between the input and counter shaft. theres lots of metal inside from front to back. the fork was broken in serval pieces and mashed into the gears. i have to say you dont cut them any slack!!! we have the same driving style i see im hard on parts too!!!!!!!!! ps never seen a fork and synchronizer broke like that im going to send you pictures soon as may camcorder is charged i called up a few places, total price just for parts w/o shipping was 1351.00... I will have pics once my friend gets his camcorder charged lol |

You can't even hold a candle to me on dead transmissions........
3 T56's and 4 clutches in 2 years and 3 months, ALL of the T56's were total losses and cost $3000.00 + Apiece. |
get a blast shield for the trans, man. seriously.

There was no rebuilding 2 of mine, I broke the case. The rest had smashed synchros and broken gears, one I bent the pilot shaft on. Never bent a shift fork though

before you can have any claim to even a princeship in the land of destruction you must at least match the parts count of the queen. you will not be considered for kingship until you can match the quality of the failures in such a consistant fashion as well. :p

my 91 RS:
2 transmissions(1 stock and one slightly beefed up) 1 10-bolt(dropped in a dana44) 1 dana44 carrier(asked justin to describe the color and smell of the fluid) 4 or 5 rear shocks(all bilstein race valving, autocrossing can be abusive on equipment, especialy when you are trying to keep pace with much better prepared cars) many set of front sway bar endlinks, solid, poly, and stock(see above) 1 WS6 front sway bar(see above, the solid end links did it) and i twisted the frame of the car so bad it was 3/4in out of square just in the area ahead of the firewall. :) i have also destroyed coutless sets of bump stops of every variety, which is part of the reason i do not believe in them anymore. :) i never really broke a lot of stuff. every shock i broke was during SCCA Solo2 competition on the in field at Nazereth Speedway. the end links and sway bar were during SCCA events at a variety of locations. |
