Anyone have wisdom teeth removed?
Like.... from the older crowd?
Looks like it is typically done for 16 to 25 yr olds. The teeth become much stronger in the root after that. I'm a couple weeks away from 31 and looks like it may be that time for me. My jaw has been aching for the past two+ weeks. I figured it was allergies because my head feels like it is in a vise and I've been stuffed up and a fever. Last night the jaw got really bad and I noticed that my 3rd set of wisdom teeth in my lower jaw are poking through. Right side looks like it is somewhat coming in forward. Left side has a small portion poking through and might be angled backwards. It's swollen and red :( The 3rd set of wisdom teeth in my upper jaw are fully through. From what I have read it may be a b*tch to remove because I am older. Dentist appt made for monday |
nah, i had mine removed when i was 23.
Wasn't bad at all neither. No gas, just numbed the mouth and had all 4 removed. Then was back at work the next day. Was worth it though, I couldn't deal with the pain i was getting from them anymore |
My wife had her's removed a couple of years ago & she's 33 now so yeah it can be done without issue, but yes it is a good bit painful from what she told me
|
all of mine are in and most of them are crooked, they told me i would need them removed, i didn't do it. they don't bother me. they only hurt when they were coming through.

Are you going to an oral surgeon or regular dentist?
I went to an OS (when I was 22) and ate a regular dinner that night. I had no swelling or anything, and I had a bit of a difficult case. Rather than get local anesthesia I got general. Either way, not a big deal really. |
I had mine removed, all four of them, when I was 23 and it was hell. All four were under the gums. They knocked me out for it and after coming to, I was throwing up the rest of the day. I had it done on a Thursday, and Friday-Sunday I didn't have much pain or swelling. So I went back to work on Monday and all of the sudden the pain hit me like a ton of bricks. But I also have TMJ, so that could have made the pain more severe for me. I'm just glad these things don't grow back

If they are already coming through, it shouldn't be as bad. They can probably just pull them. Mine were all severely impacted with nerves wrapped around them. I had to go to the hospital and be put under for my procedure. Not a fun time at all. Good luck with everything.

Mine were just starting to come up, but the dentist said they would have to come out, so I had them taken out last Thanksgivingish. I was 17 at the time, went under anaesthesia for the first time (crazy **** btw), and i couldn't really have anything hard for a few days, but just keep ice your cheeks where the gums are or you will look like a chipmunk. And make sure that you clean out/rinse thoroughly where the teeth were (there will be little divits for a while) because otherwise stuff gets in there and gets infected which I hear is really not cool.

that's come and gone.. i saw her for a cleaning and nothing else maybe next summer  |
i think you just want to do the "!wisdomteeth" mod for weight reductions
|
i had them done... it didn't hurt initally but the next day i was over at the barn working...... just took a little longer to get stuff done......
|
jesus christ man 3rd set of wisdom teeth what are you a shark???
I had all 4 of mine done, I agree with whoever said to go to an ORAL surgeon rather then a dentist. I was down in Seaside eating a sausage sandwich the night I had mine done and 2 were impacted. Not that big of a deal, but I've heard and seen people get all swollen and look like chipmunks hording nuts in there cheeks... LMAO |
I had mine done by an oral surgeon and was out of work for a week. So it doesn't necessarily mean naything.
He's going to my dentist first to see what she says. She's really good, so I'd rather he go to someone we know before going to someone we don't. If they need to be removed (I don't think she's a surgeon), we'll go to a dental surgeon. |

His wisdoms should have been removed years ago after the braces. But whatever. SO now the wisdoms came in. |
I'm 34 and I just had mine done back in June and I went to an oral surgeon and I was down for a good 4 days!! She actually said that the younger you are the better, because 3 of mine were impacted and a nerve ran over the bottom 2 and it sucked!!! Sooo, put it this way I had a vasectomy about a month later and I would take that anyday over having my wisdom teeth taken out again.... my .02 cents

dont worry old man, i have to get all 4 of mine out soon too, we should go together and get a group discount lol.
|
i have all four of mine in, im kind of in the same situation as liz. the doc said i should have all of mine removed, one is impacted. they barely hurt when they came in, pretty much to the point i even forgot they were coming in. they dont hurt me at all now :knocks on wood: sometimes the impacted on scrapes my cheek but thats about it. ill most likely keep them in.
|
I have two impacted and two partially impacted (they both came partway through and then stopped....). They don't cause me any pain, but they are causing lots of crowding for the teeth in my lower jaw, so the oral surgeon wants them out. He said he would just take all 4 to prevent trouble further down the road.
That was 2.5 years ago......haven't gotten around to it yet. - Justin |
From what I hear, everyone is different. Some people got all messed up and others went to work the day after with no problems. I had all 4 of mine removed at the same time @ 22 and I was a blubbering mess. I think I was ODing on percosets and just wasn't functional for like a week. Most annoying part was flushing the crap out of the holes in the bottom after you ate. They close up but takes a little bit. Happy its over.

Thanks to all.
So, seems like if you are under 25 ish then it isn't too bad. If you are older..... it sucks donkey ballzzzzzz. Appt tomorrow. |
