Yes. It's now the G8. GM is trying to stack Pontiac up against BMW and they are going with Gx names to be equatable with 3 series, 5 series, and 7 series.

the G8s gonna be pretty sick but still I wish they let the prix stick around just because its a little smaller..and it finally has nice V8 power

And a disgusting amount of torque steer.

They should have just named the G8 the Grand Prix and all would be well.

Cant, The Oshawa plant owns the rights to the name Grand Prix, as well as Monte Carlo and Impalla.

Oshawa makes all the W bodie cars, such as Impala, GP, Monte, LaCrosse, and used to make cars like the Regal and Century.

And as a reminder, all the W bodies must die so that Camaro and other RWD sedans and coupes can be made here. Camaro and her Zeta sister cars will be made in Oshawa. Oshawa will shut down Plant 2 to retool for Camaro very soon. All production will move to Plant 1, which is right now just Impalla and Lacrosse.

Yes, the Grand Prix GXP is FWD, but is the only of the the W bodies that get larger front tires to compensate for the extra load, on top of the only ones that get Bilstien struts designed for the handling of the GXP package. Grand Prix is also the only of the W bodies that have DVD Navigation.
Grand Prix is a massive car, and the G8 is actually smaller then the Prix, but has a lot more interior space.

i guess the pictures confuse me...the G8 looks like the massive one

BigAls87Z28 09-19-2007 09:26 AM

G8
Length 196.101 in
Width 74.801 in
Height 57.701 in
Wheelbase 114.801 in
Front Track 62.701 in
Rear Track 63.301 in

Grand Prix
overall length (inches): 198.3,
overall width (inches): 73.8,
overall height (inches): 55.9,
wheelbase (inches): 110.5,
front track (inches): 61.7,
rear track (inches): 61.3

Predator86 09-19-2007 09:31 AM

thats not too drastic...i guess the height it was what threw me off

BigAls87Z28 09-19-2007 09:32 AM

That and the larger wheel base makes a car look big. The GP, like all Wbodies, have maaaaaasive overhangs, with small interior space considering the size of the car.

I still can't believe they're getting rid of the Monte Carlo though. My uncle owned each one of the first 3 years, '70-'72. Also those years had the LS6 454 Monte Carlo that was stick shift, what a car. I love my camaro and will probably keep it forever, but I'm sure everyone on this site has a secret dream list of cars that they hold close to their heart and really hope to get one day. On my list, I look all the time for a '70-'72 Monte Carlo, would love to put a Merlin 572 cu. in. engine in it, paint it that turquoise color they used to paint the '57 Chevys with, along with black race stripes, Chrome Cragars, o what a car that would be, ha ha. My camaro is my daily driver and my love, but that Monte would be a nice 2nd car to keep on the side as a project.

1969 Black Firebird Formula Ram Air 5 package with the original 400 cid pontiac engine....if not i'll drop in a crate 350 or larger....Chrome American Racing torque thrust D rims
