A new Yankee era has begun...
Torre turned the Yanks offer down and will not return to NY. To bad.
|
oh well, he was not worth 7 million bucks a year to manage!! nobody is i'm sorry! JOE GIRARDI TIME
|
I wonder how the players are gonna react...I mean, it ain't like the Yankees didn't give him a chance to come back...
|
heres the offer torre refused
In a surprising turn of events, club president Randy Levine announced during a conference call with reporters originating from Tampa, Fla., that Torre rejected a contract that would have paid him a base salary of $5 million, with $1 million bonuses for each level of the postseason the Yankees reached next season. Those bonuses would have meant that Torre could have earned as much as $8 million in 2008. Levine said that if the Yankees made it to the World Series next season, his contract would have vested for 2009, with a base salary of $8 million what 5 million is'nt enough? or was it the incentives thing bothered him. either way good bye joe it was a nice ride but the yanks will still win with or without him. that is if the players who wanted joe to stay don't leave and play somewhere else. |
TBH I dont think you will see Rivera, Posada, or A-Rod in pinstripes next year.... all said the return of Torre will decide whether they will test the market. Best closer, Best Yankees Average, and Best Yankee run producer. Either way, Yankees are prolly not gonna make it to 2nd place next year if they hire La Russo or Girardi.... Id rather see them with Mattingly.

strange, espn reported that cashman left tampa today to meet with torre in ny, and they interviewed cashman today saying they were just waiting on the boss and his sons to move things along

The whole A-Rod thing has nothing to do with Torre being there or not...But Jorge, Mo, and Petitte does...Here is what the Yankees should do...manager wise- bring in an EXPERIENCED manager such as LaRussa or Bobby Valentine...Giradi is good, but he managed a small market team with a much more forgiving fan base...leave Mattingly on the staff as a hitting/base coach (he won't be a bench coach since the new guy will already have someone he works with)...next, you do everything WITHIN reason to get A-Rod and Posada to stay, A-Rod mainly for his numbers and skill, Posada for the leader/veteran in the clubhouse role...With Mo, you are not too aggressive with him...throw him an offer but don't get too crazy...there WILL be decent closers on the market this year...you do the same thing with Petitte that you did with Rivera, and if you don't resign Petitte, you look for a young, hard-throwing lefty such as Dontrelle Willis...after that you fill some other moderate needs- more middle relief pitching, a fifth(and maybe fourth) starter, and an everyday first baseman (Betemit is OK, but he is better as a middle infielder)...other than that, i can see no reason why the Yanks don't make the playoffs next year...:dancing:

WHY WHY WHY WHY
did they ever give clemens 27 mil for just this year? cashmam is the one that should get canned. could have made joe a better offer if they did'nt waste so much on clemens. even if it ain't 27 mil that he gets in the end he was'nt worth 2 mil!!! |
I can understand why Joe walked. His run with the Yankees was one of the most successful in all of sports history, comparable to Phil Jackson with the Bulls, Bill Belichick with the Patriots, and Cassey Stengel with the Yankees from 1949-1960. He won four World Series titles, six AL Pennants, and went to the post season all 12 years, and they are treating him like he screwed up and needed disciplinary action. A one year deal is a slap in the face. That plus Steinbrenner's constant insults finally pushed him over the edge I guess.

they keep comparing "not winning the world series is failure, fail in your work place and you would be fired too"...................he has made the playoffs every year, which puts him in the TOP 4 TEAMS IN THE LEAUGE every year....if you finish in the top four of your company every year your employed you get a bonus, not a pinkslip

Everything the Yanks are saying and doing stinks. Are they going to offer the new guy a similar level of job 'protection' (as in only 1 year guaranteed)? Will the contract be performance stepped, like the offer to Torre? If the answer is yes, then ok, I'll quiet down. But if they offer a multi year or no 'performance bonuses' they are full of crap.
And if they do give the new guy a multiyear guaranteed deal, why do they think more of an unproven guy then a guy that took them to the playoffs 12 straight years, 6 WS with 4 wins? Because if the time is better then the Torre offer, that is what they are saying. I'm not happy with the way this went. Classless. Sidenote, I listened to the beginning of the Michael Kay radio show today. He is a total Yankee stooge. He has zero credibility. He defended the Yanks and basically made Torre out to be the bad guy. |
i dont care what team it its, its insulting to offer an accomplished manager like that a performance based deal. you offer that garbage to inexperienced coaches, not torre. i would have walked too. he can get his 5 mil somewhere else and be happier. its not about the money
