... but then again, I'm a Rangers fan, so what do I know. I'm eager to see inside the new stadium in Newark. |
Maybe its the 9 game away schedule with constant traveling.
Maybe its the new coach with a definately new coaching style. Maybe its the new line-ups with the players learning to play together and get used to each other. Maybe.... its early in the season and they have to get used to swinging hockey sticks not golf clubs. :) In any case, it IS a bad start to a strange season for them (new arena right around the corner) so its gonna be a rocky start. Last year was supposed to be a re-build year for an honest run at the cup, then a few players left for bigger money elsewhere, requiring the team to restructure the lines. There are all kinds of excuses we can throw around (see above) which may have some validity or not. Frankly, I look at this season like last season - build a strong team this year, then make a run for the cup next year. |

And before the rest of you blame Brodeur, remember that he's the last line of defense. Goals scored on him mean failure long before the puck reached him.
Having said that, there are plenty of goals this season that seemed to get by him that normally wouldn't have in seasons past. I don't think putting Weeks in is the right answer. I think Jaques Coron needs to pull Marty aside and remind him of the basics. The hands-off approach the coaching staff has for veterans needs to be tempered with the need for wins. If he's not doing well, don't brush it off as a bad night. Spend some time with him one on one, on the ice, going back over hockey 101. The Devils needed to go over HOckey 101 last year - no crisp passes, too much crap in their end of the ice, and no follow-through once they finally got the puck out of their end. I hope Brent can fix those things and get the team to gel by December otherwise its gonna be another very long year. :P |
omg omg! brodeur is a good goalie, but the old fashioned devils approach was defense. Now they have a more offensive approach. of Coarse brodeur is going to let more in now.

The bottom line is that NJ's defense is not as strong as it was last year (whether because of coaching or because of roster changes). I don't think ppl in NJ gave Rafalski the credit he deserved, which is too bad (go Wings!). Brodeur has to learn not to depend so heavily on his defensemen. He's a great goalie, but like the NYR offense, he has to learn his role on *this* year's team. To be honest, though, he really should've stopped a couple of those goals last night. Maybe he's hurt and not telling anyone. Maybe he's losing his sight. I don't know..., but a couple of those shots, I was thinking, "he's soooo got that one," and all of a sudden the puck drops in the back of the net. *shrug* Maybe just an off night. |
I think brodeur is loosing his sight like you mentioned. even in the playoffs last year he let in a lot of goals he normally wouldn't have.
